Default Chickens!

Not the squeaking little guys I was expecting, but sure made my day. Walked a total of 80 yards to pick them both up. One shy of a limit

Waiting around at about 8 yesterday morning for my last duck. Dozing on and off in some warm November sunshine while cozy in the boat. Out of the corner of my eye I see set wings low, coming my way. Then a flutter of the wings. Its an upland bird.

Crosses my path just a little too close, 25 yard shot as it floats in front of my boat. Pick up, no flaring to deal with, no worry picking out drakes. Steel 3s do a number.

Giddy off excitement, I sit back down in the boat. 15 minutes past, not a duck seen. About ready to throw in the towel when I see another b-lining it. Get down, cover up faster than I have for any duck this year. Number 2.

Another 20 or so minutes when I catch a huge flock of greenwings, about 300 strong, coming out of no where. Finish the biggest flock of the year and wait for the majority of them to clear before putting down the last one. That's the way to call it a day.

For an eastern waterfowl kid like me, this is a treat. Seen them hundreds of times in the basins, and much more often over the past few years, but never in hand. They sure are beautiful birds.

Nice! I pass shot a few last year out of my pit in the sandhills and have kicked up and knocked down a few in the basins but have never done em both at the same time.

We usually shoot a few each year while duck hunting here in central NE.

Done the exact same thing while waterfowl hunting a few years back. Droppin chickens in the dekes is awesome!
