After yesterdays rain its going to be awhile before anybody starts cutting beans again, although 85% are probably out. Corn on the other hand... 90% still in and still testing too wet

A friend of mine whose brother is a farmer told him that drying corn, when this wet, costs about $2.00 a bushel. Is that right?

The guys I have talked to say all their dryers are full and they would have no place to put it if they did pick it... Told me wednesday to not expect any of their corn out before or during rifle deer...

Our main issue is the conditions of the field. Adams Land and Cattle has no problem taking the wet corn, cause they turn around feed to the cattle wet.

The problem lies with getting the equipment in and out of the fields. It's nearly impossible with all the rain and snow we've been getting. We won't be up and harvesting again untill at least midway through next week.

They won't be around here, the 9-20" of snow will hamper that...

I'd say Keith County about 75% of the corn is still in.

Yes its very expensive to dry corn or to haul it in wet because there is a penalty if the corn is too wet. Lots of farmers are doing it in my area and we are drying a small amout but we are still giving it time, in a few more weeks i'm sure the stress level will be up a lot more.

There are a couple places that are taking corn when it is still wet. I know the ethanol plant up by Blair was taking 22-23% corn for awhile.

Only thing to do now is pray for dry weather.

Had about a foot of wet snow on the ground this morning at Cozad (and it was raining pretty good before that) Still beans in the field around here, very little corn harvested. Wouldn't surprise me if most of the corn's still in the fields by Nov.14......

As I drove from Norfolk to North Bend this afternoon I counted fields harvested vs. fields with standing crops.

About 85-90% of the beans are out and about 10% of the corn is out.
The highest percentage was along highway 30 from Schuyler to North Bend.

This was done on a field to field basis and no attempt was made to estimate acres.

And $2 per bushel to dry corn is not reasonable. I've sold corn for less than $2 per bushel (right now cash corn is in the low $3 range) and it certainly doesn't cost more than the corn's value (or 2/3 its value) to dry it. The lowest cost I have ever heard with a modern drier was slightly more than 1¢ per percentage point of moisture per bushel. Since I don't own a drier he may have been BS'n me.

Omaha.com - The Omaha World-Herald: Metro/Region - Nebraska dry no more

FTA:

Statewide, Nebraska's corn harvest hasn't been this far behind since 1982 — more than a quarter of a century. As of Monday, only 15 percent of the crop was out of the field, and no area of the state had more than 25 percent of its corn harvested.

Driving from Macy to Omaha I saw a few guys picking corn but not too many. Hopefully the warm weather today will help.

My estimation that we'd be in the fields mid week seems a little generous after huntin tonight.

Still snow in alot of the fields and they are a plain mess. No way we'll be able to get any equipment into the fields to harvest.

Hunted deer east of Victoria Springs and based on the amount of snow and conditions of the roads and fields I would not say you will be darn lucky to be in there by the end of the week.
Little bucks doing some chasing on the edges, full moon after the snow had them feeding all night and bedded down early from what we saw.

Not just a matter of snow or high moisture content of the corn but what happens to that field when you put a couple of machines in there? You pack it down to a point of having to turn the soil again next spring in order to plant. I feel for the Ag guys right now.
Traveling from Lincoln to Merna and back over the weekend we say 0 harvesting taking place.

Not good enough to be dry and sunny right now. We need some wind so these farmers can get back in the fields and get their crops out. Don't really care about the hunting aspect at this point. Just want to see these guys wrap things up for the year, park the combine in the shed, and take a much deserved break. Extended forecast looks dry in SE NE. Will keep our fingers crossed.

Here around Eagle we had people working their beans and corn yesterday. Let's hope we continue to see an improved effort the remainder of this week, through the weekend, and throughout all of next week. The weather is supposed to be in their favor. Let's hope it stays this way for the next week or so.
