My Neck of the Woods by Bryce Lambley. Has a lot of awesome deer hunting stories right here in Nebraska. He is a full time teacher from Fremont, and if you don't know Bryce he has some awesome stories and manages 2 nick bucks every year with his longbow. Its an awesome read!

Any book by John Eberhart, also has a good informational video series
"Mapping Trophy Bucks" by Brad Herdon (actually good for deer in general) "Backcountry Bowhunting" by Cameron Hanes (not for a weekend warrior though) "Do-It-Yourself Dream Hunts" published by Michael Schoby (has a foreword in it from Michael Waddell) Several of the others mentioned are very good also. |

I tend to enjoy the classics more, you know, books written by people who can actually write books, as opposed to magainze writers who think they should write a book.
The short list: The Shootin'est Gentleman - Nash Buckingham Horn of the Hunter - Robert Ruark The Sad Short Life of Francis Macomber - Hemingway Field Notes - Fred Bear I read a lot of how-to books, but I can't say any of them of really memorable. Some more; A Hunter's Road - Jim Fergus Jenny Willow - A great bird dog book, and fairly new too. All of the Capstick is great, as someone already mention. All of Patrck F. Mcmanus is great if you're looking for humor and also Jim Zumbo's book To Heck with Elk Hunting is pretty funny. If you must read how-to books, you shouldn't miss these two. Read these two books and you can eliminate 90% of the rest. The Book of the Rifle - Jim Carmicheal The Art of Shotgunning - Bob Brister |
