Default Low Plains Late

Met up with BPbowhunter and Flatcoats and a couple others this morning for a low plains late hunt. It was fairly slow, but most groups we saw we got to commit. Ended with 23 between 5 of us. Mallards, GWT, and a Gadwall. We also bagged 2 prarie chickens. The highlight of my morning was getting a triple on green wingers that bombed the spread as we were picking up, not a bad way to fill out the rest of my limit. Not near the number of birds as there was this time last year at this location.... All of the flocks of mallards we saw, we got to come right in. Even had a teal get evaporated by Flatcoats from about 3-5 yards away. It was a great hunt, got to meet some new people, and most of all had fun!

Nice job! If you don't mind giving up your trade secrets, how did you have your decoy spread?? I went out the last two days and most of the ducks on Saturday were call shy, and they would land short of my decoys and/or swing wide! Today I had a few more groups willing to work, but they still wouldn't commit 100%!

We just had the typical J setup that let the birds land right in the kill hole.....

One more picture I figured I would throw out there. Flatcoats tried to elude the camera all the way in and out, but I did manage to capture the moment.

first day, probably pulled them out for 90 minutes afterwords, felt pretty bad for him. he was hurting but just kept on going...second day, didnt get more than five. so even though I caught a hard time by the youngin's it was worth it.

Carrying the dog looks familiar.. We've had to do that before while pheasant hunting.. Just glad we had my friends GSP which didn't weigh to much!
