Default Guided hunt I guess

In the past couple of years I was lucky enough to get a new neighbor. Anyways he has a kid in early 20's that wanted to get a nice buck. When speaking to one of the kids on Monday he wasn't having much luck in finding any bucks that he wanted to harvest. So I chose to take him and place him in a semi-descent spot. Well anyways it turned out this was the spot to be. Around 9:30am he sent me a text that he was bored and pretty much ready to call it a day. He had told me a farmer had pulled in to a neighboring property and a combine had just started up and was harvesting within a few hundred yards. I told him just sit tight they may push something by you. No more than 20 minutes passed and I got another text that he had just killed a good buck. The worst part of the deal is he immediatley exited the stand and when he walked out of the woods he seen 5 additional bucks working his way and several were bigger. Anyways the shot was a 5 yards. Buck traveled no more than 30yards after the shot. After you have killed several nice deer its even more fun to take someone and assist them in getting a nice deer.

If you go through, there really are some NICE deer falling this year. This has got to be the most impressive Ive seen it since Ive been on here. And we still have the best 10-15 days to come!

Nice deer everyone. You all make me jealous. I can't really report a "kill" success but so far I've had an interesting fall. After the first few times out I thought I had them figured out, so this week I changed locations and then started seeing more quality deer. The big one I've been looking for came out at 2:30 the other day chasing a doe but only got to 85 yrds from me. The next morning (yesterday) I had 12 bucks and around 25 doe fawns come by. Most were milling around about 30 yrds away when the big boy stepped out again, of course he was hot on a doe and never came closer than 65 yrds. I've only got two more chances to sit before rifle season to try and get him. Come saterday I'll have my daughter with me and hopefully she gets the shot and I get it on film. He looks identical to the one in my avitar. I've got several deer like him on film, just can't seem to pin them down. (we need a smiley pulling your hair out)

I must say you guys are all putting up some great stuff!

I haven't seen one deer yet on the private ground I got permission to hunt. Between having almost no time to get out and trying to figure out a new property, I'm really struggling so far. I'm not sure I'll even get another shot at archery now that the time change killed the after-work daylight. This is my first archery season... kinda bummed its not going better.

This season has taught me how valuable a couple of trail cams can be. I might have to pick some up. "Dear Santa..."

Keep it up fellas, I'm living vicarously so far this season!

Well you are right. This has been the most impressive year I can ever remember for archery. I personally have seen more P&Y deer this year even on film than I have for a long long time. I question if the extended rain all summer long provided the much needed boost for antler growth. I know where I hunt there is no corn only natural browse and when it gets a wet summer it seems to make a difference.
I didn't put my deer up on this thread so I thought I would add it to the pile....

Heck of a buck. If you've got a couple more bruisers bigger than this boy cruising around your area too, you've gotta like your chances on harvesting a nice buck as well. Kudos to you on setting your neighbor up. Another one hooked for like.

i agree with the rain and nutrition. i know even body size wise there seems to be a lot of fat,fat deer walking around. typically those 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 year old deer are pretty easy to distinguish, but this year they seem to be little horses themselves.

I expect to see lots of posts on this thread through the weekend. Farmers are hitting it hard stirring things up, and the bucks are getting frisky. They are definitely on the move. This a.m. around 5:30 I was on my way into Lincoln, and I saw a nice eight-point standing in the ditch fixed on something on the other side. I slowed way down and rolled by him. Didn't even flinch. I didn't see for sure, but I bet his girlfriend was over on the other side of the road. On the way home tonight around 5:30 I saw three doe about thirty yards off the road. There was a buck about thirty yards behind them with his nose to the ground. This is all between Hickman and Lincoln. We're not talking wide open spaces. Developments and lots of road traffic. Could be a really good weekend for anyone venturing out.

This weekend should yield success to those who venture out. Had a very nice 6x6 freeze up on the highway last night with a doe standing down in the ditch. Not even the vehicle seemed to faze this guy.

Back from CO and all I can say is the rut must be on. We counted 26 deer dead on the roads on the way home across NE. Lots around Kearney. Last night coming home from work the country roads were also covered.

Im hoping to get out tonight and put the smack down on a public land buck!

That and the increased farm activity, the farmers are chasing them out of all those corn fields with the harvesting.

Drove Saturday evening where we saw that 6x6 Friday night. As I took a country road I saw a hunter with his bow heading to a belt. I drove a bit farther down the road boom there he was again running right at the hunter. I stopped and the 6x6 slowed down and stopped short of the belt and watched me. The hunter had no idea this buck was there as a hill separated each. As I sat and watched for a good couple minutes the buck turned and proceeded into the belt. Turned around and the hunter just made his way into the belt...oblivious as to what just happened. Fairly new to area so have no clue if he got the deer or not. Quite a hunting story without hunting.

Got this one Saturday morning. Hard to resist with a bow at 20 yards.

Had this guy on the ground by the time the kids left for school. Made for some great memories with my 4 yr old. My biggest bowkill. I am not good at scoring, any guesses? He is a 5x4.
