Never given a duck away in my life. Freezer and fridge are empty of birds. It is an acquired taste; and if you haven't gotten it by now given the amount that I hunt, I would probably be better off going for another hobby.

4 teal a day is nothing; A meal and a light snack. They basically get cleaned and go right in the crock pot with beef broth. Eat them on a bun with the broth as a french dip. Grill a few times a week for dinner if I am feeling bold. Haven't gotten out the jalapenos, sour cream, bacon or frying pan yet. No need to water down birds until you start shooting big ducks.

Now, when you are shooting 6 big ducks a day for the first few weeks of the season, the crock is on 24/7, you find new ways to eat duck with breakfast, you start to see more feathers than carpet in your home, and you find yourself waking up at 2 AM for a duck snack. Best time of the year.

Shot another solo limit this morning; toughest so far this year. Shot every teal that was in the decoys spare the flock before legal and the remains of the last flock when I finished up. Two single birds around legal, and then a double out of a big flock at 10:30. All blue. Least amount of birds I have seen so far. Tomorrow looks like the day to break the streak; going to try anyway. Hopefully some new birds move ahead of the cold front, but the system looks too far North to do much of anything. Cross my fingers for the first triple of the year tomorrow, I am probably going to need it.

Great work Pat as always.... and awesome pics as well. You got it down! Went out on another scouting mission tonight and found a handful of decent spots.... Pretty much what we saw in the plane last week except took the truck and scouted a couple areas I had almost totally overlooked from last week. Anyone wanna help clean bug juice off my front window? Didn't see a ton of birds but I could tell they had been there recently. Looks like maybe some rain ahead for tomorrow. Scouting is definately KEY this year!

Hunted this morning. Another limit, 2 blue and 2 green. Was done fairly quickly, but it was the same story. Slim pickins. Killed 3 singles and my last one out of a flock. Didn't see squat for new birds. Hopefully tomorrow morning will be a different story.

Found some puffballs on my way out; first I have picked this fall. Should be tasty for breakfast.

I got a lil teal/goose combo in the crock pot so tomorrow we will be eating my possession limit in sandwiches as we are shooting more. I love this time of year. Ended today with 3 shy of a 4 man limit. Not from lack of birds either. I think someone took the steel outta my shells.

Good amount of teal in the marsh this morning, couple good flocks of greenwings around too. Had my limit by 6:45 and my buddy stretched his out until 7:20. 7 bluewings and a greenie.

Ran into the Nebraska Avian Influenza Coordinator and he swabbed our ducks for testing. Nice guy and a pleasure to talk to.

Kept the streak alive today. Teal numbers are declining from the last front that moved through; just in time for the front that should be moving through tomorrow to replenish birds. The rest of the early teal season should be great, it looks like plenty of systems should replenish ducks frequently this weekend and next week. Hopefully it is pouring tomorrow morning so everyone else stays inside. Nothing like being able to feel the moisture that has soaked on your gun give you a nice calming spray in the face from the recoil. Mix in a little gun smoke, marsh to myself, blood in the mouth, and wingbeats and I have my little dream world.

Had a good time away from the river and basin today. Nice change of scenery. Ended up getting some shooting in too.

Marsh to myself this morning. It still took a while. Teal numbers are way down from the pressure this weekend. Horrible shooting didn't help. Shot every bird on my third shot. Spent 5 or 6 shells trying to water swat the first teal that was still swimming after she went down.

Slept in yesterday to hunt geese. Like usually these early birds took a dump on us.

Me and a buddy made it out again today. Very few teal in the marsh we chose, I managed to scratch out my 4 and my buddy got skunked.

Hunted the south central part of the state Fri-Sun. Managed to scratch out two man limits of teal each day. 22 bluewings, 2 greenwings. Teal numbers were very low, only saw one other group of hunters.
