Had a great afternoon of hunting after Thanksgiving dinner. Shot a nice bearded hen turkey with my bow, then headed for the CRP. Dogs got up 2 roosters and a chicken in range and I managed to not screw it up for them.
(I hate that look the dogs give you when you miss an easy shot). After the CRP, walked a tree line and got into a covey of quail, managed to scratch down two of them. Cool thing was I only took the puppy for quail and she found the covey and retrieve both birds! She is starting to get it!First time I've shot 4 different upland bird species in one day (is there a name for that? maybe the upland quadfecta or Nebraska bird slam?) Anyway, here are some pics. Enjoy. Prairie chicken - this was the prettiest chicken I've ever shot. Had "horns" at least 3-4 inches long and great markings over his eyes. If the dogs would have left a few more tailfeathers after the retrieve I might have had him mounted. ![]() ![]() Tailgate shot: ![]() Another tailgate shot: ![]() Me with the dogs and birds: ![]()

I finally got one a couple years ago when I didnt have the dogs around, shot didn't ruffle feathers, and he didnt flop all over: ![]() |

Cool mount! They are some cool looking birds (when the dogs don't get to them first). Thanks for sharing!
