Default mulie question

Hey everyone quick question, do mule deer rub on trees like white tails do, i dont i've ever seen one doing it and i found a nice rub the other day in a place where you would expect a mulie not a whitetail.

Default Mile deer rubs

Yes they do. A good percentage of the mulies I've shot had cedar bark inbedded around the base of thier antlers. I've actually seen a decent size mulie try to tear a cedar tree out of the ground. I've found a few trees out where I hunt that were rubbed and there is probably a 90% chance it was a mule deer. We even found a fence post that was rubbed. Hope I answered your question. MH

I assume that they do, simply because the Mulie that I shot during rifle had a whole bunch of bark and little pieces of wood at the base of his antlers, like he had been rubbing on a sapling....

Yes, last year we saw a small forkhorn thrashing a small tree at Fort Robinson.

Absolutely they do! I've seen mule deer this year about tear a cedar tree in half he was rubbing it so hard. The buck I shot rifle season has a bunch of bark on the base of his antlers.

Trees, posts, soap weeds, tractor tires, what ever is available. Every now and then I'll see one with a black rack from rubbing on Turner's creosote posts.

Default Mulies

Hey Sandbilly, Speaking of Turner's creosote fence posts, I hunt a ranch north of Hyannis that borders his ranch. A couple years ago, we saw a decent size buck with a black chest. He must of had to scratch that itch. Anyway, his whole left side was black from rubbing one of those posts. It must have burned a little though. Every now and then he'd stop and start licking it and scratching at it with his antlers. MH

Maybe Mr. buck was burning from a jolt off the high voltage fence.

Were you hunting near Fawn Lake?
