I don't post much on here but I do read the forum almost nightly. First of all, I would like to thank everyone for the great information they post on here. It has given me countless hours of education.
Now for my complaining. I am not trying to offend anyone and think the people that I am going to complain about would not take the time to read this and be educated about hunting. I am primarily a bow hunter. I do like to rifle hunt with my girlfriend (she is in college and lacks the time to bow hunt). This is two weekends a year that we get to go out and enjoy the outdoors together, and that is what hunting is about for us. This year rifle season was horrible. We hunted 4 days and what we got out of it was... The area where we hunt is full of ignorant idiots. We hunt on private land owned by my girlfriend's dad. On opening day we had to deal with people hunting every side of the property right on the property line. My girlfriend had bullets from on of the guys hit the trees right where she hunts. We passed a small buck to let it get bigger and one of the guys on the property line shoots it ten minutes later. (I know he has the right but why not shoot does?) Then the next day we had to chase people off of the property that were walking a tree line. The next weekend we had people DRIVING TRUCKS trough the fields where we hunt. We saw countless road hunters. I don't understand were the pride is in shooting a deer 300 yards away from your truck. I could write ten pages about the wounded deer we saw from unethical shots, and people walking fields at sunset yelling back and forth to each other when the know you are there. I am very disappointed in the hunting ethics of people. These are the people that make hunters look bad in a time were there are enough anti hunting people. I will try rifle hunting one more year and if it is the same as this year I will then only bow hunt. Finally just a simple question. Is there or should there be a law that requires hunter orange on the outside of ground blind? |

I understand your frustration! Where we hunt we are near a dustless highway and heard numerous shots from the road. Don't know for sure if it had been from the road but we are the only ones alowed to hunt both sides of it so who knows... Uncut corn was our biggest pain......

stoner...it sounds like your about one year behind me in your decision process
![]() It really is a sad sight to see and be around . There are good and bad in every group of people...but its much harder to be bad when you effective kill range is 50 yards![]() heck Ive got land thats supposed to be bow only for safety reasons more than anything...and there were still a multitude of trucks that were running and gunning right through the middle of it. I mean really? I guess I just dont have the gaul or balls to tresspass so blaitantly. Heck I heard three high powered shots tonight even. |

I can hear your story as well, One of my grandpas pastures has a minimum matience road cutting right through the middle of it. we are always dealing with people pulling off the side and taking crack shots at deer or whatever else is walking around. This year the snow at home made the road nice and muddy, so barely any one was up there opening weekend except the one family friend who has permission.
As for orange on a ground blind, I think that would be a great idea for rifle season. This might eventually save some hunters life when a group of fellows that shot into tree lines to scare deer out(see it all the time) decide to crank a round off into the thicket a hunters blind could be in. JMHO

Currently there is no law. I don't think it needs to be law, but as common sense, I think it makes sense to drape a spare vest over the top. Even if I'm sitting in a chair in the open, I will usually drape something orange over the back of it. To me it is like pheasant hunting during the rifle season, you don't have to wear orange, but you should. My wife heard of someone getting thier ground blind shot at by road hunters on opening weekend.

Sorry about your tough hunt Stoner. Too bad that some of the hunters are slobs. I just don't understand how a person can call themselves a good deer hunter if you don't get out of your truck and enjoy the solitude and challenge of the hunt.

I think if they moved the season and extended the season it might give people a little more patience. I really believe that many of the bad intances are by the 2 weekend a year hunter who has the "brown it's down" mentality. But then again there are still going to be those who will be the same exact way. Seems some were asleep during hunter safety course b/c they lack the basic safety issues taught in the class.

Man that sucks. If you don't mind, where do you hunt at? Hopefully this doesn't happen to you again.

This didn't happen to me but happened to the guy that I hunted with this year on the ground that I hunted. We are the only ones that have permission on it and when he came back to his truck he had a note on his truck saying "We live here you shouldn't be here hunting go back to GI."
Pretty ridiculous and if it happens to me I garentee they wont leave the property unhandcuffed. |

I've questioned NGPC on this too. I think they should have X amount of orange on the blind that can be seen 360 degrees. I avoided every deer place these past two weekends and concentrated on ducks in areas where deer hunters WOULD NOT be or could not be. |

I know what your talking about. I gave up rifle hunting for several years because of the same issues. One field I hunt now has a blind 5' from our fence line and the windows look into our field, thier field is cut hay which has nothing there. Of course I found gut piles in our field after they left. This year I put up a big sign 10' from their blind on our side of the fence, they never shot on our side this year that I know of. Many other factors made me quit too, mostly all the unsportsman like hunters and all the crap I had to put up with. Now that I bought my own hunting spot things have changed. Yes I have a lot of ppl mad at me because I won't let them hunt, but that's the way it is, these are the guys that made me quit in the first place.
Take a deep breath and keep looking for the right spot, you'll find it someday, and not have to deal with all the bs. |

There's two reasons I hate rifle season. And this is the main one. Next year during rifle season I'm gonna put my trail cams up on the gates going into our land see if I can't get a couple license plate #'s.
Nothing pissess me off more than tresspassers, the last thing the guys that tresspass on our land expect is to get an earful from a 16 year old, but trust me, they get one...

The majority of the time people from Omaha or Lincoln are blamed for road hunting and other acts of destruction when in all honesty it's locals that are the cause. They feel because they live in the area others shouldn't hunting the grounds they wish to hunt. Protect your spots but be thankful you have a place to hunt.

Bp, weve hunted together long enough we both know all the names of the people we catch hunting the land we get permission on. sad thing is they don't listen to anyone when they get caught and they just come right back in a few hours after they leave. I personally suggest burried road spikes or an electrified gate ![]()
