barbed wire fence

Has anyone ever wondered why they put barbed wire fence around the outside of waterfowl production areas? I mean waders are not the most tear-resistant things on the planet. Just something I was thinking about at work.

Many WPAs and WMAs are grazed by cattle in the summer. Hint: take along couple lengths of 3/4" pipe insulation. Before you crawl over or through the fence, put the pipe insulation over the barbed wire. This isn't totally foolproof, but gives you a little room for error.

I hunt a WMA and enter 3/4 mile from the nearest gate through private land. So, of course if the entrance or gate is close use it .

Not always a gate or entrance to get into to alot of those WPA's or WMA's.... To tell you the truth most of the ones we hunt there are no easy entrances or gates to use.

Sounds like a decent idea if that is the only other option as opposed to going over the fence in neoprene.

i heard the wader mfg's paid for the fence.

I always see them run electric for grazing cattle in addition to the barbed wire.

Another fine example why we should not encourage more Gov. programs.

They mess up every thing they touch. Put up a bill board sign but not fix the broken pump.

Nothin chaps my hinnie more then the way they destroy upland habitat when creating waterfowl habitat disk, over graze and burn .

Why they cant leave a little area of winter cover is beyond me...

I have wrote many time about DON'T FENCE ME OUT. I have talked to NGPC and FWS about this problem before. I have got them to put access .in a few of these WPA"sWMA's . The WPA's basins was bought with Fed.duckstamp moneys. I think the access's should be for the waterfowlers. It was our money that bought them. The NGPC wma's was bought by Habitat stamp money. WMA's was bought first for waterfowl and all other game. If we want to get any thing done about access. We need to let them know. Contact the NGPC and let them know how you fell. The FWS e-mail is Gene_Mack@fws.gov I am not happy with the way they have fenced our wetlands in or how they haven't given us access to them. If you don't do any thing about it. They think they are doing the right thing. You write in on the forum. So write it to them and get something done about it.

They did. It's the 6'x6' patch of cattails over in the corner in two feet of water.
