Hey guys just wondering if you guys can tell around what town are all the birds at in south dakota right now? Just wanting to know what towns to be watching the weather for. I looked at pierre sd and it looked like some of the smaller stuff might start to freeze.

Want to find out about the birds in SoDak, Highway 81 will take you there. Actually here are a couple of links that should answer your question.
South Dakota Fall Waterfowl Counts This link will give you a snapshot of where the birds are along the Missouri River system. The count is flown weekly until their season is over. Home Page This link is to Sand Lake National Wildlife Refuge. This is a large staging area for fowl by Aberdeen. Map of Columbia, SD by MapQuest This link will take you to mapquest.com so oyou can figure out where these places are. |

I check the SD fall counts regularly, just remember those counts are along the Missouri River system, and there is almost always some open water. Big geese will even put up with ice to a certain extent. What will move geese out of the Dakotas is snow. If the Dakotas gets a big snow storm it will move geese south. In years where South Dakota gets little snow allot of those geese never do push. We need another storm like they had earlier, problem with that storm was allot of birds were still north of the dakotas. A dakota snow storm in December equals a big push, just hope we are not in the same boat or they will just keep going.
