Default Respect for other landowners and tenants.

Just a suggestion. When you get permission to hunt land be sure to let the other people around it know that you are there, what kind of vehicles you have etc. Provide a phone number etc. In some areas that have acreages it helps the tenants know who is suppose to be there and what might be a suspicious vehicle.

Ya, I have ran into this problem, where the land owner knew that I was there and what truck I was driving, but the neighbors had no idea and called the land owner saying someone was out there tresspassing. But it was also a case of nosey neighbors that "forgot" what kind of truck I drove.

This happened to me and fishman during spring snows last year. The neighboors didn't know anyone had permission to hunt this field, and when they saw us drive in there at 3 in the morning and turn off the headlights they thought we were drunks and called the cops on us. 10 minutes later a cop pulled up and shined a spotlight on us and asked what we were doin out here so here early. I kinda feel bad for the cop that had to get up at 3 am to come check on us. lol.

It is also good for safety purposes if your neighbors also hunt to know where they are sitting and for them to know where you are sitting. It is always a good practice to know what's in front of your shot. Also, you might learn that the trail you are hunting is cut off by a hunter on neighboring property.

Happened to me on Tuesday. The land we hunt was recently sold to two different people, and we got permission to hunt one half while the other person who bought the other half says absolutely no hunters. Well, 4:30 in the evening rolls around, and we've got this buck and 3 does all jackin' around on this other property that we can't hunt. So I watch from my stand and the other guy we hunt with is the one that is going to have a shot if they cross the property lines. The does come onto our side and the buck follows, and the guy we hunt with shot at the buck and missed. He took off back onto the unhuntable property, and the does ran further onto our land, so I took a shot at one 350 yards out and dropped her. Before I could even get out of my stand this guy comes rolling down like a bat out of hell to investigate in his Rhino. Absolutely ridiculous that he reacted like this. We did nothing wrong, and he could have blown a shot for one of us coming up the way he did just because he doesn't want anyone on his property, which we weren't. It would have been smart of him to watch us from the hill he was on and make sure we didn't cross onto his land before coming down to us like that.
The jerk knows our truck and knows where our stands are, but fails to answer the phone when we call to let him know we are going to be out there.

This is great advice. I would also include other hunters that are on the property which I'm sure most of you already do. I have had permission to bowhunt on a nice piece of ground for the last six years, always had a great relationship with the owners, even after it changed hands. This year I go out scouting and see a treestand set up where I normally hunt. No biggy, I really don't mind sharing, just surprised me that the other hunter made no effort to contact or let me know he would even be there. Then, I find blood trails and trash where it was marked next to my stand and still no heads up. I thought that was kind of pushing it but I didn't say anything to the owner, didn't want to get him upset. Like I said, I really don't mind other guys enjoying a good bowhunting spot with me, but then again I really don't want to get stuck or shot walking out at night either! All the neighbors know what I drive and when I hunt for that very reason.
