Default Buck Question

What is the best way to get a bucks attention when he is chasing does? I had a nice buck probably within 40 yards but couldnt get his attention from calling or anything else I tried. Any suggestions? I usually set out a decoy but of course didnt have it out this time. I saw this buck last year and didnt get a shot either and he was chasing does then too.

Thanks for any help you guys can give me.

it is very hard to draw a buck away from a doe...but occasionaly it happens. in my experiences a loud grunt call or one of the "buck roar, buck growl" type of calls can strike an aggresive nerve, especially with a snort wheeze. i think this is because it can sound like a rival buck challenging the other. i have not seen many bucks leave a doe for any call though. i have seen wounded bucks or bucks being shot continue on a doe's trail....now thats determination, but these guys only have like a month a year to get the job done(as many times as possible).

That would work. So does a nice grunt and snort wheeze (sp?) combination.

More times than not I've found there isnt much you can do. I like the shoot the doe option.

I know back when I was chasing tail there wasn't much that would have stopped me from pursuing my goal.

I wish I could have shot. They wouldnt come out of the trees and I tried grunting, etc and nothing worked. I didnt figure there would be much I could do but didnt know if anyone had any other secrets that had worked for them. Thanks for the information.
