Thank you, i'm not much of a writer as you can tell.

Yep, he's the best one i've ever killed. I'm happy with him.

Default 2008 Rifle Buck plus Bonus Pics

Hey Guys, here's my 2008 Rifle Buck - Sorry no field pics;

The pics and spread do this Buck no justice...

Really, this buck had a huge body and the rack is pretty heavy. I was hunting a cornfield down near a riverbottom in Johnson County. My buddy was in a treestand about 450 yards to the east of me, and I watched him shoot his two does and figured the field was shot for the evening. So I headed out and west towards the river bottom. To get there, you have to cross a very tall railroad line, up one side and down the other. On the other side is a small cornfield. So I get over the tracks, take a few minutes to survey the area and see if anything is walking around in the trees or the field and didn't see anything, so I head down the side... Well, they must have re-rocked over the summer or something, cuz I slid all the way down about 20 feet to the bottom on the rocks... When I stop, I look up and see about 6 deer bailing out of the riverside tree line... Figuring this area is shot for the night also, I take about 2 steps into the picked cornfield... Stand there for a minute and catch something out of my eye to the left...

It's this fella and his little buddy just walking about 4 rows deep heading straight for me about 50 yards out. So I take a minute, look at him with the binox, figure he's a nice deer, not the giant we had seen a few hours earlier, but still a nice one... By this time he had moved in about another 10 yards, so I've got a 40 yard shot... Both deer are oblivious to me standing there, which was kinda strange, but they were strange all weekend...

So I put the crosshairs of my Ruger .270 Win on him and drop him where he stands... The little guy (2x3) is just beside himself and ran about 15 yards to the tree line, and stood there looking at his buddy for about 5 minutes, then I finally started walking out and towards him and he bolted...

Anyway, he's a nice deer and I am very pleased with him and we got tons of meat out of him too...

So do I get a bonus point for no brow tines, or a deduction?

I also filled my bonus Doe Tag earlier that day...

Anyway, the following are pics of the bruiser my Bro In Law shot Sat Morning 15 minutes into Rifle Season at about 20 yards under his stand. I think it's a very nice deer, and it's a personal best for my BIL.

Default My Buck Bash Entry

Ok I am not much of a story writer but here it goes. We have been hunting fields where the corn is still in with out much luck at all. Opening morning we had little movement due to the corn we think, but did manage 3 does in the afternoon with some little pushes of tree lines. I hunted a few more days with no luck harvesting a nice buck. So friday the 21st my buddy and I left Omaha at 3:45am and a whole 12 degrees for a temp, wow was it darn cold. We sat up next to a little barn the farmer stores hay in and the 45 minute till shooting time clock started. I was sitting in a little chair that was very uncomfortable so I decided to put it in front of me and put my bag on it so i had a rest. Man was I glad I did that it! As soon as we could see I saw what looked like a deer so I got my gun up and looked in my scope I noticed it was a buck. I told my buddy who was sitting right next to me that it was a buck and to get his binoculars on him as we were 220 yds out, which would soon be my longest shot by far. He was ready and I pulled the trigger BOOM he jumped the fence stopped so I put another one in him and he jumpped over the fence again and piled up right where I had first shot him. Man was I excited my biggest buck to date!! He is not a monster by any means but he is a great deer for me...
