for kicks, i thought i would ask the first words(if appropriate
) that you say after shooting a big buck or your first deer or anything for that matter. tell what you gasped first after the moment of truth on your favorite hunting endeavor. |

I shot him across the road from my sisters house in NY state and had to drag him about a 1/2 mile through the hard-woods, across an abandoned apple orchard then through a field of tall grass. In total the drag was just under a mile.

Last year I said "Thank you Lord!" after my arrow passed through the buck in my avatar. I cant say what was going through my head over and over as he was approaching my decoy....I guss I can clean it up. I said "holy crap, holy crap, holy crap" as he closed the distance. Man, how the the adrenalin flows!

my first p&y buck reaction....... "how in the **** did he get 5 yards from me before I even knew he was there??? a 300lb animal that walks like a cat, thats how!" you might laugh, but thats pretty much what I thought/said to myself.

On the first deer I shot with my bow, I thought I had actually missed. And I thought "How the heck did I miss that thing?" Remember I was only 13, so it was still pretty clean.
The buck I shot last year I thought this to myself. "Ah, **** thats a bad shot." Since my first arrow was a paunch hit, luckily I was able to get another arrow in him later that day.

I remember what was going through my head when I called in my first spring gobbler last year. "There he is. He just gobbled back at me. I gotta call again to get him to come. There! He gobbled again. Oh Sh*^! Here he comes!! He is actually coming in. Get ready to shoot." After I got the bird I remember getting up and whooping so loud that another gobbler answered back. All I could do was laugh and whoop again.

Well i can recall the deer just from last year. Shot a doe during rifle after I missed a big buck. I had watched her for 4 days straight come in at the same time with her two buck fawns and I finally decided it was time for her to have it. Shot, she jumped and did the death kick and took off into the trees. I'm not very excited because i am a very mellow person, so this was basically what i said after she took off. Bam, got that biotch. Then looked up and said thanks Lord.
My buck I shot with the muzzy was about even less exciting. 4x4 walks out decide i'm not shooting him then a 5X4 walks out right behind him pull my gun up let a grunt he stops. BOOM! The smoke clears and I don't see a deer. I mean literally a second after i shot the smoke was clear. I said out loud. Are you f'in kidding me, what the hell? How did he disappear. So i crawl down and walk up there and there was just a slight depression that he fell in the when i shot and dropped instantly. Then I see him poke him and go "Hmm guess that works!" The next two doe were the only ones i was shaky nervous excited for. I think it was because they didn't just pop up like the rest i spotted them from a good 100 yards away walking in before hand. I waiting knowing i was going to shoot them once they got down in front of me. I had to look away and think of something else and talk to myself. I was like "come on Eric you have done this before deep breath. You better calm down or your gonna shoot her bad and it's not gonna be a clean kill." After the kills it was like ahhh yes whew.

My first deer was a doe. I was by myself in a stand and 4 does came walking in, gave a call and blasted the largest one. She jumped up upon impact and took off into the woods. i thought for sure i missed her so I got out the stand and pursued the other 3. After pushing the others a while I came across the fist doe I had shot at. Not sure if she was totally dead i poked her and the first words out of my mouth on my first deer ever was, "Are you dead little lady?" pretty cheesy right? Then I gutted her arse. I know there was definitely cussing going on during that process. First gut job I had ever performed. And of course draging the heap to your truck there are always some choice words.
