Between all the rain and alot of crops still being in, it might be a little rough on Sat. I know several of the places we go hunting, there is corn standing right next to the grass. Not good! Plus a few of those areas are low land, so there will probably be standing water in the grass. Not good either! I'm almost thinking of waiting until next weekend and going to the Nebraska game instead.

Pheasant hunting good or bad, is better than work. I know what you mean about bowhunting during the pheasant opener. It really gets the deer moving. To bad you can't bow hunt with a group of 10 and 5 dogs!

I will still be going out but I'm not sure if I'm going to be hitting a couple of my better spots. Like you mentioned they are kind of low land and most likely will have standing water in them. I have walked them before with standing water without much success.

I think on this years Deer Season it will be alittle tough as there will still be corn in fields and thats where the Deer will stay if not pushed out. Looking forward for Nov. 15th. =)

I agree...a lot of birds will be hanging out in the corn and beans. However, I don't mind working a little harder this time of year. I think it preserves a few roosters that would otherwise be dead early in the season. Then, as winter sets in it there are less people out hunting, there are more birds left over for me to spray lead at!

we ended up shooting 10 this morning. not exactly what we expected, but still fun to shoot some roosters. got 4 or 5 very nice points and the rest were birds that just got up. saw maybe 100 birds, which is maybe a 1/3 of what would be average for this field. still a lot of corn w/in a mile of the field. i suspect many were still not cooperating b/c of this.
