Got out with the bow tonight. Saw about 15 does, mostly mulies, and 3 mulie bucks. They appeared to be 1 1/2 yr olds. It's encouraging to see they made it through rifle though. Had a shot on a nice fat doe, but before I could get my shot off she turned too much quartering towards and I didn't feel comfortable taking that shot.

Been out with the bow for the last two days. I'm officially hooked on bowhunting!!

Wednesday: Out in the morning and evening, saw probably 30-35 deer in the morning, including a decent 4x4 mule deer. In the evening, saw 4 does across the alfalfa field I'm hunting.

Thursday: Early morning sucked...25+ mph winds from the north. Finally got out of the stand about sunrise and stalked a doe within 40 yds, but a grouse flushed up and busted me. Then had a young doe come flying towards my brother & I and stopped 17yds from us when she finally saw us. Really funny, could almost see the thought bubble above her (holy CRAP!!)

Went out mid-morning and got within 20 yds of a nice doe....broadside shot on her....got to a full draw....grass & scrubby stuff was too high on her. I could have shot in hindsight (20/20) but I didn't want to chance not getting a clean kill on her because of the shrubbery.

Went out tonight to the alfalfa field again and didn't see anything...mayhaps the neighbors shooting their handguns and rifles for an hour had something to do with it...

Going out in the morning again, on my way home saw a bruiser headed toward the field I'll be on. I'm hoping the stars will align for me and I can bag a deer with my bow.

This bowhunting stuff is AWESOME!!! Just wait till I actually bag a deer...

good luck. its a nuts feeling. youd never think your heart would pound right out of your chest over a measly doe. Once you do get one though, you really do realize how many things have to work out in sequence to even get the right shot off.

Went out this morning again, saw plenty of deer, nothing closer than about 75 yds. Tried stalking a few does but they were going to have none of it.

Headed out this afternoon and stalked a deer within 40 yds, broadside. I was hiding behind a little cedar scrub and got to a full draw. Worked my way around the tree and realized it was a he. It was a little 2x2, I was awful tempted, but wanted to hold out for a doe or a better buck.

Did get home in time to watch the end of the Husker game!

went out over the w afternoon, and th morning. Had 1 little fork under my stand from 7am-10am he finally left. Other than a couple moving in the thick brush 300 yards away seen nothing else moving. Very quiet. Expect a few weeks for things to settle down a bit after the war. Usually don't see much the first week or 2. Still good to be back out.

While turkey hunting yesterday afternoon,Brandon and I had 12 deer walk out and feed anywhere from 10-75yds. No scent eliminator crap,no blind, etc. Just sitting still and letting them do their thing. One finally caught Brandon move and it was a stare off for about 10 minutes. Thought Brandon was gonna scream when it snorted at him in the dead silence. Brandon has never deer hunted much and I think he really enjoyed watching them at such a close distance. The landowner said he needs deer harvested so I think Brandon found his spot(for does anyway).

Went out this morning again, saw the usual 25-30 deer on the alfalfa field. Had a small 5x4 come within 75 yds and laid down in the sun for about 20 minutes. I was hiding behind a couple of haybales and tried to decide whether or not to take him.

He got curious and came within 29yds, turned broadside for me even. Even though he had that many points, I bet he wasn't 17" wide. I decided to let him walk, the land he's always on has zero pressure. Myself and two other bowhunters are the only people who frequent the area and the other two (father & son) are done hunting for the season. So I'm hoping he'll grow another year and get him next year.

Then the wind came up...good grief; I tried working into the wind through a bunch of trees where I've been seeing deer but couldn't get within range of any of the does there. I bet there were some gusts around 40mph, cold wind too.

I'm pretty sure I finally got the deer on the alfalfa field nailed down so hopefully the big 4x4 will show up again...if not, I'll be getting a doe, nice fat one!

Got out this morning for a MZ hunt. Could have shot more does of course and never did see a buck but did have a nice one on the cam from last day of rifle season. Ill bet he made it thru.

Moved my ground blind to a key area. Been waiting all year to hunt this area. Shots are kind of long for the bow so the MZ will git er done.

Well posting this a little late, but here is my 2008 rifle buck. Grossed 151 1/8. Should have entered him in the buck contest, but didn't have one of those nifty ID's printed off. He is a typical 6X6, with 2 kickers on both sides. Should have had 16 points total, but 2 of the kickers were busted off.

Second Saturday of the season. Shot him at about 350 yards. Couldn't have done that with a slug!!

He was with a few does and was basically pestering them. Chasing them all around the field, had one thing on his mind.

That wind made things freaking cold for this afternoons muzzloader hunt. Saw probably a dozen deer, three of them bucks (One 2-1/2 year old 4X4 and a coupld of 1-1/2 year olds). Could have filled the bonus tag just before the end of shooting hours, but we have relatives in town this weekend, so I didn't want mess with it.

Both my wife and I filled our bonus tags with mature does this morning 30 seconds apart, now it's time to try and find a mature buck.

Filled my bonus tag last Sunday, on a doe that was being chased pretty hard by a little buck..maybe second rut? or just a small buck that was still a little horny?
