Checked a few basins this a.m. while upland hunting and found a handful of spots with open water and quite a few mallards using them. Still plenty of birds around out there if you scout around hard enough.

Shot three geese between 5 of us up on the North Loup today, it was pretty slow. Not the number of birds there usually is later in the season.

Mmmmm, mergies.

We got screwed by the grain this morning, geese went right over us and off to feed. They came back in one huge bunch, didnt leave much for a hunt.

Shot at 3 honks, killed 3 honks. 4 mallards also, but we shot like retards on the ducks.

Hunted ditch chickens way up north today. Dakota county on some private. Wished I woulda been in a blind, saw clouds of ducks and geese traveling the Missouri flyway. Im talking thousands of ducks and huge groups of canadas. Had one flock maybe 2 to 3,000 snows fly over while walking. Duck movement blew me away. Tornados of ducks.

I did my homeworks this weekend.....I had a public marsh with 1000+ ducks on it this morning.

This the only time this year I wish I would of used my mojo. At one point it was snowing so well I could hear whistling wings but not see the ducks. I dont think the ducks that I was calling at could see the decoys there were in some pretty thick weeds due to the snow fall.

It was a awsome tho to watch the birds work into the main mass of live ducks that where in a hole out in the middle. Drop out of the sky faster than the snow.

Went out and managed three geese between myself and my brother. Should have limited out but some bad shooting (mainly by me) kept us from doing so...

I think I would have needed a small army to back me up today.

I hanv't had time to post these yet until now, went out wensday and again on saturday. fishman and I shot our limit wensday up at calamus (ofcourse my pup thinks she needs to be in all the pics).

a picture earlier in the day before we limited.

the last drake I shot on wensday had 4 curls on his tail, I had never shot one like that before

this picture kind of shows the curls better

here are the pics again from saturday shot by my father, BP, and myself. mostly gads, a drake and hen gwt, and a merganzer.

overall, two fantastic days of hunting. saw tons of birds on wensday and not so many on saturday. its amazing what 3 days will do.

Nice birds. I think that's the first waterfowling pic I've ever seen with a cat in it.

Default North Loup River

Finally took a break from deer to blow the dust out of my duck calls.
Here is the view to the south between flocks....

Had several flocks flying north against the wind all day, and alot of the cupped right into our spread, but very few finished. Most flared out of range, a few I got greedy when I should have just called the shot on the close 1 or 2, but we ended with 8, which I thought was good for a deer hunter.

In a related report we only saw 1 small flock of geese all day, and we are just a few miles south of Calamus.

Default Wow.....

Oh man, ok.... What the H#ll is going on....I havent seen not close to the numbers of birds that should be here right now. We went out east of Creek in a field we have scouted for a few day, ( its my bosses Land ) but have seen geese using it one day, next mourning went out and Nothing. Maybe seen 3 flocks of geese and 3 ducks. This all was Sunday mourning so it turned bad real quick. Snow started coming down and pretty much turned into a blizzard. But even the weekend before that, The previous hunt we had, Just no numbers at all......Sure hope we get another push of birds or we may be in trouble.........
