yes, that is why i like being extremely early. that and we would have been earlier if fishman and I had waders at the time and didn't have to use my one person boat...

0 wind today

Keith's gun was a single shot at best sometimes a no shot so we ended just short of a limit. TONS of gads, some widgeon, greenheads, a pintail, and even a canvasback. No geese were seen today except a suicidal loner speck that was doing it well until he got to about the 100 yard mark straight above with his wings behind his back and seen the stupid mojo spinning! I am so buying remotes for all the mojos. Sick of those things ruining geese.

Great day either way.

Great morning to be out, chilly enough to feel like fall, warm enough to not freeze when you get wet. I think one of my favorite parts of every hunt is that first five seconds, in the dark, when you first get out of the car. After an hour and a half or more in the car coming from Omaha, sick of country radio or listening to myself practice the calls, the sound of hundreds of ducks on the marsh you came all this way to hunt is energizing. Wakes me right up and has me beating feet to get out there. This morning, with no wind, the marsh was almost deafening when I opened the door. I knew it would be good morning. Ended with my first ever limit of ducks in the regular season. The big ducks didn't work very well, but there was NO wind, the Teal still buzzed, passed on many of them. Its great to see so many birds that I can have the patience to wait for 10 to 20 yard shots. I think I saw mostly Widgeons, seemed to be the majority of what was flying, by far. Saw quite a few large groups early. Didn't see Specks till I was heading home on I-80.

Luckily none during the photo session. I'm no electrician, but I touched that fence a handful of times with no shock, later I grabbed it for something and wham!, woke me up a bit. I don't remember what was different, mabye I even had gloves on, but I was thinking it was off, and it suprised the heck out of me.

Most work off pulses and not a constant burn.

Heading out in the morning for a quick hunt, I've only got about 9:30 to hunt, so hopefully I can make quick work of my limit.

First divers of the year this morning, two ringers did the dirty. It was slow, and we let them have it. Finished with Wigs, Gads, and teal. Harder limit than earlier in the week, lots of pressure. Shooting was horrible, should have finished the two man by 8.

Was the first one to the marsh today, but certainly not the last. Lots of pressure, but plenty of ducks. Problem was we believe the weatherman's forecast of south winds early on. Set up for a West/Southwest wind but it was blowing strong from the straight north 15 mins before shooting time. With all the groups on the lake and it being so close to shooting time, we made the decision to throw our decoys 80 yards of shore and hope the birds would be ok landing between us and the decoys....ha didnt work out as planned. Birds wanted the middle bad. The ticket was hitting em real hard as they made their pass over the middle...we were able to get a few to break off and give it up in an absolute terrible wind and set up. Ended with ten between the two of us, real mixed bag. Redheads, teal, gadwall, widgeon, and even a spoony went home with us. We set up for specks and had the only flock we saw all day dead to rights. That is until Mr. Greenjeans came springing into the spread yelling for us to unload our guns and hand over our permits. Quite unnecessary if you ask me, but still a fun day to be out. Hard hunts like this are very rewarding when you bag birds, as we truely had to work for every bird we shot. Taking a few days off from hunting as work isnt too happy. Back at it after the weekend. Good luck to all who are celebrating LPL in a few hours....shoot em up.

This morning plain sucked! I didn't pull the trigger once.

I don't know if the birds have just got pressured clear out of the area, or they moved out for some other reason, but man, it was bad. I saw a total of probably 30 teal, that got up right at first light and headed straight west without giving me any kind of look.

Looks like I have alot of scouting to do now, hopefully I can find a few marshes.

That sucks James, most COs will take a knee if they see birds working in.

Was it a newer warden or was it Webb?

we had em do the same thing to us during early teal. I was finished up, but we were still trying to finish off my girlfriends limit...he came right out into the open water as about 40 greenwings came over and were diving back in. he then proceeded to stand not in the reeds but in plain sight as at least 5 flocks ranging from 5 to 30 birds flared off us for the next 15 minutes. I wasnt a happy camper. But I get used to prick behavior from them. it almost seemed as if he was enjoying it....seriously.

Oh, got word from the Swan crew in ND today.

They said its gadwall madness up there now, and lots of small divers. Snows moved good early in the week. Sounded like pretty good numbers, they were able to shoot 23 over the socks.

I missed one hell of a crane shoot this year.

Neither. I sent ya a pm on who it was as I know they read these forums. We have gotten checked 5 times while in the spread this year, which doesnt bother me one bit. 4 of those times we have been told by the warden to "stay in hunting mode". They even point out ducks for us and tell us to get down if we dont see them....kinda cool. But this time just rubbed me the wrong way. Could almost see enjoyment on his face.....ha didnt even know what a redhead was either. He asked us what is was after examining it for a few minutes and asked us why we shot it....told him it was an immature drake and he still didnt believe me. IMO there is a way to go about it if they are walking out into the spread. I understand its not their job to make sure they dont mess anything up for us, but I would think they would be somewhat considerate. Not really a big deal, just kinda rubs me the wrong way, especially cus this particular warden seems like he takes enjoyment everytime he runs into us. 100% legal evertime but he still feels the need to rip us apart. This is dating back to two years ago with this particular guy. Even had our names written down before he got to our spread for teal....kinda makes me wonder?

Thats too bad James...Heres a few scouting pictures from yesterday...Not sure if we will get on these marshes as they are private, but man was it sure good to get and do some scouting...Tons of teal in this particular area, and a few mallards mixed in...My friend has a real nice camera so he got a few good shots...Itll sure be fun if we can get on a few of these ducks.

My favorite
