Question Guys, I have a friend in Oregon who wants to buy a shotgun that I have been thinking about selling. What are the laws about selling guns across state lines? I know they are probably more strict on hand guns than long guns but I want to make sure I do this right.

It is not hard at all to do. He has to get an FFL to do the transfer. What this means is he needs to get a copy of an FFL holders license and either send it or fax it to you. You then put the copy in with the gun and send it to the FFL who will then do the paper work required in that state. Some FFL's will require that you send some additional information about yourself such as name, address and phone number. They also might ask for your drivers license number.
What I normally do is when I get the copy of the FFL license I call them to ask what all they want sent with the gun so there is no hassle for anyone. Then do what they ask and send it off. Hope this helps. |

IF you are going to meet him face to face, you can simply sell it to him, no FFL needed
Hunter is describing a sale made via the mail. Just wanted to add that since you didn't specify if you were intending on mailing it to him or meeting him sometime. |
