Default Whitetails Unlimited

Ok I was just looking at the local banquet flyer and have been thinking about going but always hate the fact that Im giving 100s of dollars to a organization that doesnt help me out locally. Now I see on their flyer it says that they always donate over half the proceeds from the banquet back into our local community. I have never seen or heard of anything they have done. Have you?
I sure hope they dont just give it to private land owners for food plots.
I know Ducks Unlimited has been great to this state of Nebraska in the purchasing of lands around the area including the Timperly expansion onto Wood Duck wma near Stanton that I love to hunt.
I want to see Whitetails do something like this.

Even better yet I want to see them step up to the plate in helping pay for processing of deer for the local shelter. I would donate for sure if I could just drop it off somewhere and not have to worry about me paying the process fees to bring it to the locker.

Well I might show up there and donate my money anyway for something to do and try to win the boys some lifetime permits.

Or maybe I will just save that money and donate more to DU locally.

Whats your guys thoughts?

Do we really need more deer or more quality deer?

I think they need to teach management.

I have emailed them with no response yet.

From their web page for 2008 donations

Quote:
Lancaster County Neb. Youth Shooting Sports & Hunters Against Hunger - $5,509
I know you asked for local but that is the best my limited research would turn up, and by limited i mean the 30 seconds it took me to find that on their web page . I am sure you could find more by spending more time looking.

I know for a fact that the QDMA banquet was a joke. Seriously rigged out the *****!!!! I won't ever do anything like that again, you spend litteraly hundreds of dollars for raffles and such and the same people win all the gifts over and over. the Remington 700 20 year anniversary rifle got me the most. 30 bucks to get your name on 2 squares, then if they picked your square, you won it. I spent 60 bucks on it, and some millionaire from Elkhorn won it out of everyone else that was on it, and his name was only on there in 1 square (20 bucks), and he wasnt even that excited about it. Turns out that guy was buddy buddy with all the QDMA officials and they were goin goose hunting together the next morning. Don't give any of your money to them, its a joke, and you won't win anything. I have no clue what Whitetails unlimited is like, but that QDMA really got me heated that they can just get away with it. And if any of you are QDMA officials, i could care less, just so you know that you are running a scheme and people eventually will catch on.

Thats the only one I saw on there too, but it does say that it is not a complete list. Also You gotta look at how many events they hold in the state each year, I have no clue as to how many that was last year but I am sure the money donated in each state is proportionate to the amount taken in. Remember too that just because they may take in $7000 or $8000 dollars does not mean that is the amount donated, there are still event expenses to be paid, like the hall rental, food/catering services and raffle prizes aren't cheap though sometimes they are donated by sponsors. There are only two events schedualed in Nebraska this year and I suspect the same or fewer for last year so they probably took in less, which means less to donate compared to Iowa who has 15 events schedualed in the next 3 months of this year alone. There is no way (and I am not suggesting you do) that one can expect money made at an Iowa or Wisconsin event to be donated to a Nebraska Org. So if more local pay outs is what is wanted then more local fund raising is needed.

Deerslayer,

If you are talking about the recent QDM banquet held in Omaha, I and my girlfriend were in attendance and we won a few things and in no way were we set up to win. I about fell over when our raffle number was called for a single shot slug gun with scope. I asked gf if she put some tickets in there and she said yes, because it had a scope so it must be a good gun. It is, but for someone who hunts IA.

They aren't rigged, I think it seems that some of the same people always win at these occasions because of

a. when tickets were put in hoppers,

b. if they aren't shaken up, on top and the kid picks only from the top or bottom when the mc tells them to change it up.

c. lots of money spent by some individuals on tickets gives that person a realistic better shot at winning however sometimes the person who only has one ticket/game piece still beats the odds which in turn frustrates the person who put a lot of marbles in basket.

Better luck next time.

I too, however would like to know what QDM does with money raised. Not accusing of misappropriation of funds but curious. They mentioned some vague habitat examples but I think habitat is quite good overall in this region.

Have a good day

The banquets being rigged issue comes up alot, and all I can say is the people that win are usually the same people who donate the most, with few exceptions.

As far as WU, is does not look like they have much of a presence here, but their mission seems good. After you stretched out by DU, NBA, NRA, PF, its hard to find anything left for another organization no matter how good the cause.

Oh, and: Hey Ty what do you say, the cubs are going to win today!
I love that song.

think what you want. I know it was rigged, and nothing you tell me will change that. All i know is that I'll never donate another penny to that crappy association, because if I got all my money back i could have bought a few of those guns outright from them at price. Never again. Only cool thing was my uncle got the ed weatherby rifle, after that auctioneer lengthened out that auction like crazy, he ended up paying $1,750 for that gun. They told him that he should just lock it away and he told them to buzz off, hes gonna kill some deer with it.
Food was great, but that banquet was a RIP!
