this will be my first year hunting deer with a bow. Ive killed numerous deer with rifle and black powder now its time to try more of a challenge.
I had shot my bow about 30 times when I took a nice wild hog in Oklahoma last year with my bow about 15 mins into the hunt. Good times.

Yea basically over the past few years I have trophy hunted for deer. I mean I have passed up some NICE bucks with that rifle. Where I hunt I know there is absolute MONSTERS there. Just once that opening morning rifle starts they get out of their pattern quick. Feel this way I got lots of time and there is nobody else there to spook them. Im pretty excited. Especially after getting everything all put up its looking real good. What do you guys shoot? Right now I have a PSE Carrera I traded for an old shotgun. Its pretty smooth for a first hunting bow. All summer long I bow fish so I get to keep honing my skills all year long as well. Here is a pic of the hog I shot in Oklahoma.

i shoot a pse bruin, a decent bow that i'm really confident with (which is important) i like to keep things simple. for bowfishing i shoot a martin rebel recurve bow with the retriever setup.

i had killed a fair number of does with bow, but finally found a buck that would do last october. Ive always told myself if they wont make p&y I wont shoot them, and this one barely made it. the word on the street is I should have him back before opening day....hopefully.
![]() Im still interested in shooting quality deer, but always meeting the book requirements isnt my total goal like it was...now im more interested in shooting mature bucks. plus, i dont think its really fair to look at a 125 inch symmetrical buck and think he's "better" than a green score 150 that had a lot of deductions and nontypical points but couldnt make net non-typical. The record books are around for a reason, but they certainly dont tell the whole story. |

Nice bucks Darkarcher and flatcoats! Those pictures are getting me pumped for the season. That is one tall 4x4 dark...reminds me of a deer my dad shot almost Identical only his had a little more mass at the bases. I unforunately haven't shot a deer with my bow yet. Ive been chasing them for 4 years though and have passed many good bucks. Also had some things not go my way on BIG bucks, but who hasn't? Im also in the same boat Im not going to shot a deer unless I think hes 130 or better. Some may call me stupid but I particulary don't eat that much venison. Ive killed a couple turks and a lot of carp. Heres my tom from last year. 33 yard shot with my bowtech diamond black ice. Good luck to everyone this season and only about a couple weeks left!!!!!!!!!!!!!

any turkey is good with a bow man!
unfortunately I shot four and lost four last year ![]() I almost think they dont even know what hits em and they take off....or so it seems. Every one I hit has good blood, feathers, and then I just watch them fly away. Dunno....might be trying a new broadhead this year on em. Almost like I dont have enough knock down power or blunt force. I shoot the same thing at deer (muzzy 100gr 3blade) and the deer do the same thing. unless I hit a rib, they just flinch and keep walking...only difference is they walk like 30 yards and then fall over ![]() |

The only "big game" I have killed with my bow is a double bearded Tom that I shot around Macon, NE this past spring. I forgot the camera and wasn't able to get a picture though.
Other than that all I have killed with the bow is a bunch of rabbits and a goose. |

I've shot two bucks with my bow. First one was a little 3x3 but had to get my first one (missed a couple of nice ones before him). The next year shot a nice 5x6 never had him scored but my buddies told me too. He was 5 1/2 years old had 6 inches in diameter between his tines but his g2's are only seven inches tall and not alot of spread. Last year got locked on a real nice buck but got out smarted all year by him but saw him the Dec 31st 2007 and has a good chance of still being there. Got pics of my 5x6 just got to find them.

Tried like crazy to post pictures of a dall sheep I shot but it's not working. I've seen others with less replies than me posting a picture - I'm just not getting it I guess.
Anyway, my best achievement with my bow is definitely a dall sheep I took when I lived in Alaska. They are hard to get with a rifle let alone a bow. I still love to whitetail hunt every chance I can though. I shot my biggest buck with a bow 2 years ago, a 4x4 scoring 140.

![]() Good thread idea. I really like that buck Darkarcher! My bucket list includes getting a massive 4X4 with my bow. Heres my bowkill from 11-8-07. Hes a mainframe 4X4 with some stickers. I shoot a Matthew Q2, carbon arrows, and 3 blade muzzys. Cannot wait to get back up in the trees. Time is near! Im camping that week before rifle season again in hopes of catching another good buck cruising for does. I'll give him a carbon injection if Im lucky. Love this stuff! Thanks for sharing pics all who have/will, love to look at them and read about the bowhunts. The anticipation is huge! |

great pics guys... frontier i checked out your dall on your profile, that looks sweet...hope you did a full body mount. this deer is my largest with a recurve and my largest non-typical. however, i never aged this deer and he had a very small body and young face. maybe a 1 1/2 year old with great antlers? what do you think on the age? maybe i should have let him walk...?!
