OK going to buy some new arrows and broadheads for this year. Been shooting goldtips but anyone got any suggestions on some they like better and why?
Also been shooting the ol Muzzy 100 3 blades but am thinking of changing. What about the Rage expandables? Look like they are pretty awesome. Not sure if expandables are the route I want to take though. Remember this is my first year hunting deer so help me out. Thanks

For arrows I would go with Beeman Carbon Hunters. I thought about switching over to Rage broadheads this year also, but decided I wanted to stick with fixed blades. I shoot NAP Thunderheads now, but I've heard really good things about the muzzy's also.

Easton axis are my choice for arrows. I have been shooting Montecs, Razorcaps, and the rage 2 blades. Have not shot an animal with the rages yet but from what I hear they leave a huge exit whole which will give you a good bloodtrail. I have shot bears, deer and turkey with the G5 and they have not dissapointed me. Stay away from the steelforce blades they are weak.

I use Goldtips and for the price I get them I won't be switching. I've been extremely happy with them. Lot of good arrows and a lot of choices. The XTs flew good for me and I stuck with them. Shoot Montec G5s and bought some rage 2 blades this year. Haven't heard a bad thing from anyone who shot them and keep hearing about the hole they put in a critter. I've got to give them a shot.

Had a lot of success with the thunderheads over the years but the montecs are the best I have ever used and beat anything else, You can resharpen them if needed and you can buy the preseason ones for practice they are the same just not sharpened. All my montecs shoot as true as a field point, where the thunderheads tend to have the occasional bent furel (1 in 4) causing arrow wobble when spin tested and resulting in decreased accuracy, but I would still use them if I had to make a quik change in gear. Heard good stuff about the rage heads but have no experience. If you wanted to stay with a fixed I would recomend the G5 montec, their Strikers, Thunderheads or the Hellrazors, not discounting any other brand those are just my choices/opinion for best heads.

I think shot placement is the key to killing deer. I still use aluminum arrows. I have a arrow in my kwiver that is tipped with a cheap wal-mart broadhead that has passed through 3 deer and is ready to shoot again.

I have been shooting the cabelas brand arrows for over a year now and they are awesome. They are made by easton or beaman and are about $50 for a dozen. They shoot great out of my bowtech, and for the cost I will not be switching any time soon.
As far as broadheads go, I have shot the standards (muzzy's and thunderheads) and have no complaints about either. I have heard good things about expandables recently. Especially due to the fact that you do not have to broadhead tune an expandable. |

I have been shooting with Muzzy MX-3. Also Cabela's has sale going on from the 21-27 and there are some broad heads for sale. Muzzy MX-3 & MX-4's for only $19.99 very cheap. Also very high quality product.

....and the key to shot placement is properly tuned arrows and bow, without those two you will not get COSISTENT shot placement and it does not matter what head or arrow you use then. (this was to add to what Elwood is saying, not poke at his statement) So whatever combo you get it is important that the arrows be properly spined for you bow set up and that there is NO WOBBLE when you spin test arrows with the heads on them, if they wobble you may as well shoot a bent arrow. If you do not know what I mean by spin test, put a broadhead tipped arrow on a hard surface with the tip down and the nock up. Spin the arrow like a top and watch the area where the insert and broadhead meet if it wobbles get a different head. Either the heads furel is bent or the insert end of the arrow is not square.

Of all the broadheads I have shot they are ruined after shooting an animal.

All of the broadheads I've shot turkeys with have been fine other than needing resharpened. And of the deer I've shot with my bow 2 of the 3 heads just needed resharping and the other was pretty much ruined.

Beman ICS hunters are a good arrow. I switched to the cablelas arrows this year. Exactly the some as the Bemans, jsut a different decal on the shaft.
I've had good luck with the NAP spitfire expandables on deer, though they never are quite the same after you replace the blades. They are good for 1 shot maybe 2. I am switching to Muzzy MX-3's this year. So far they fly like my FP's out to 30. More testing needed. |

you simply can't go wrong with montecs and easton axis, that new nano technology they use makes the arrows ridiculously strong yet light weight, best arrow i've ever shot, and at a real decent price
