Whats your opinions on the best meat locker to process a deer in eastern Nebraska? Name what you think and approx. how much it would cost to get the deer done? I know plenty of you do it yourselves, but I'm looking for a locker to do it...Im mostly looking for good jerky...I usually do it in North Bend and its real good but its kind of pricey and I think I'm going to look for something different this year....Thanks

For less expensive, you'll usually need to go to smaller town lockers. However,IMO,most of the prices are fairly close and figuring in gas and my time keeps me close.

Shusters meats in Waverly has always done a good job for me. It really depends on what you get, summer sausage, jerky, hamburger, breakfast sausage? Couple other places I have heard good things about are Panama Locker, and Virgils Meats in Lincoln. Virgils only takes a certain number of deer I guess, but I have tasted some of his deer jerkey and its very good.

I do all of my own deer now, but before I figured out how to do everything, I took it to C & C Processing in diller,ne everything I got was fantastic and would recommend them to anyone. But living in fremont that would be a bit of a drive. I have always heard great things about schusters and the processing place in brainerd, not sure what the name is but have always heard good stuff. Woody

I like going to the Wahoo Locker for any deer processing I get done now. Can't remember the price from last year off the top of my head but I love their deer jerky, sticks, and hotdogs.

Roman's II Meats here in Norfolk is great. Best part is I believe he is only $2 a lb for anything but jerky. Not sure on his jerky prices. Do a google search for Roman's meats Norfolk.''' Sure cant beat his goose sticks.

Merna Pack is where I take my deer. Everet does a really good job on everything and his prices are pretty fair. But thats along ways from Fremont.

I've used BIG in Millard quite a few times and have always been very satisfied. For my taste, their summer sausage is my favorite.
I also took one deer to Van Fleet's in Ralston (Salisten Meats) last year. It was from the anterless only late season, and I got it back really fast. Although I didn't like the sausage as much, the jerky was great. There were a couple of flavor choices, and I chose a hot black peeper version. It came packed in multiple vaccuum sealed bags, and each one was resealable. It was so nice to be able to open one and eat on it for a couple of days while the rest stayed fresh. And it was the best I ever tasted. |

There are two places where I've had great success. Stoysich on 132nd and Center in Omaha and Schusters on 87th and Cornhusker in Lincoln. I like Schusters for their breakfast sausage, how they process deer steaks (thickness), their timelyness, they are a check station, and their prices.
However this year I want to spend more time in processing my own deer. I might even take a stab in making my own sticks and sausage.

I see you're in Fremont. Have you tried Bob's? I've talked to a few guys that have used him and they didn't have any clomplaints.

Sorry, just noticed the "I usually do it in North Bend" part.
Doesn't Brady's in Fremont process deer?

I think Brady's is a Mexican grocery store now. I might be wrong though. They used to have the best NY strips in the state!

I think Brady's is owned by the same people who own the Mini Mart in North Bend...the Aldersons. At least they did.
Bob's Custom Meats in North Bend does good work. One good thing about them is they have samples you can try with all of the things they can make. They have won some awards for their hotdogs and polish dogs. One way to save money is to find your own filler meat. A friend of mine always brings in his own pork with his deer. Most places charge you for using filler meats in some of the things they make. In all reality it comes down to taste. One person might like one place's flavor and the next likes somewhere else. You might just have to try a couple places and decide. A lot of good advice so far though. |

Arp's Smokehouse
Brian Arps 325 N. 7th Arlington, NE (402)478-5115 (402)620-8938 I took my deer to him last year. Great jerky, sticks and cheddar brats.
