Anyone else tired our how bad our website is? It is never updated or anything. Why can't it be something that they update the day of the event. I have done website design before and it is not that hard to update stuff once you get the page designed.

When the August Commission meeting is. Also I know that I can find it on here but they had their July Meeting in Kearney and went over waterfowl dates they did not update what the possiblities are and they didn't even put up what happened at the meeting in the hunting section. If you think our website is good you should check out the kansas one.

I agree never add new stuff but always take off the good old stuff, I like it for fishing tournaments and buying permits the rest is irrelevant, all about money not convenience. i/m/o

If you look at the press releases on the web site, the recommendations for the waterfowl season are shown. They also state that the recommendations will not be adopted until the meeting in late August. Since they are not yet official, there is no reason to put them in the hunting section.


KEARNEY, Neb. -- The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission’s board of commissioners voted to table staff recommendations for Nebraska’s 2008 waterfowl hunting season dates and regulations and took action on a variety of other subjects at a July 18 meeting in Kearney.
The recommendations for the 2008 waterfowl season dates tabled by the commissioners will be adopted with amendments at the next commission meeting in late August. They are:
Early Teal -- Low Plains, Sept. 6-21; High Plains, Sept. 13-21; daily bag limit four; possession limit eight;
Early Canada Geese -- In designated zone, Sept. 6-14; daily bag limit five; possession limit 10;
Youth -- Statewide, Sept. 27-28; daily bag and possession limit same as regular duck season;
Ducks and Coots -- Low Plains Early, Oct. 11-Dec. 21 and Dec. 27-28; Low Plains Late, Oct. 18-19, and Oct. 25-Jan. 4; High Plains, Oct. 11-Jan. 14; daily bag limit in all areas determined by conventional system, possession limit twice the daily bag;
Pintail and Canvasback -- Low Plains Early and High Plains, Oct. 11-Nov. 18; Low Plains Late, Oct. 18-19, and Oct. 25-Nov. 30;
Dark Geese -- East Unit, Oct. 25-Jan. 28; North Central Unit, Oct. 11-Jan. 23; Platte River Unit, Oct. 25-Feb. 6; Panhandle Unit, Nov. 8-Feb. 6; Niobrara Unit: Oct. 25-Feb. 6; daily bag limit in all units three geese; possession limit twice the daily bag;
White-Fronted Geese -- Statewide, Oct. 11-Dec. 21; daily bag limit two geese; possession limit is twice the daily bag;
Light Geese Regular Season -- Statewide, Oct. 11-Jan. 11 and Jan. 26-Feb. 6; daily bag limit 20; no possession limit;
Light Geese Conservation Action -- Zones 1, 2 and 3, Feb. 7-April 12; no bag or possession limit;
Crows --Statewide, Oct. 1-Nov.15 and Jan. 20-April 6; Special Public Health Hazard Order, Nov. 16-Jan. 19;
Falconry -- Low Plains, Sept. 1-30 and concurrent with all duck season dates within Low Plains Early and Low Plains Late zones; High Plains, concurrent with all duck season dates within the High Plains zone.
In other action the commissioners:
– voted to approve a staff recommendation to establish a $5 fee for the Apprentice Hunter Education Exemption Certificate;
– voted to approve a staff recommendation to amend state park regulations to allow the installation and use of seasonal waterfowl hunting blinds at Lake McConaughy State Recreation Area, and to allow public hunting in parts of Fort Atkinson State Historical Park;
– approved a recommendation to hold a public hearing at the next meeting to approve hunting season dates and regulations for Nebraska’s 2008 waterfowl seasons;
– approved a recommendation to hold a public hearing at the next meeting to consider authorizing a 2009 bighorn sheep hunting season and the number of permits allowed;
-- heard a report by Don Dunlap representing the State Auditor’s Office;
– approved the gift of a 57.52-acre Warta tract of land in Buffalo County from the Platte River Habitat Foundation. The land will be an addition to Bassway Strip Wildlife Management Area;
-- a recommendation to grant an easement with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Randall W. Schilling Wildlife Management Area to allow construction, operation and maintenance of the Missouri River Bank Stabilization and Navigation Fish and Wildlife Mitigation Project. Approval is contingent upon Federal Aid approval; -- four volunteer Nebraska hunter education instructors were recognized for 30 or more years of service: Kenneth Gill of Bloomfield, 31 years; Charles Mahler of Allen, 30 years; Robert Wollenberg of Gretna, 30 years; and Allan Zeitz of Norfolk, 31 years.

I like the website overall, great layout, but I sometimes wait for the upland forecast longer than I like.

Compare the NGPC's website with other state game agencies websites and you will be very suprised.

Easy to navigate, more up-to-data than not, and easy to purchase permits, etc. etc.

Actually, when going through other states' game sites, I am rather impressed. Sounds like incoherent btching to me.

I don't know compaired to Michigans yours is jam packed with info. You can not get that on our website. I guess my standards are set low thanks to Michigan DNR.

I admit that Kansas has a good site and an all around good game department. But going off looks alone, I still think that NGPC has a site that would easily rival Kansas. Especially since our game department is much smaller than KS. KS game dept. does have some great things, like their waterfowl surveys (great tool), but then again, they have more public land and a more extensive part in the National refuge system.

Compare NE's to Maine's, Maryland's, Missouri's, the Dakota's, etc. When I have used the others, ESPECIALLY when buying permits (which is one of the biggest purposes of a game agency website), I still find Nebraska's much easier to navigate and use. There are still enough states where you can't buy most of your permits online.

Beaten by one doesn't mean dead last.

LINCOLN, Neb. -- The Nebraska Game and Parks Commissioners will approve 2008 waterfowl, crow and falconry season dates and regulations at an 8 a.m. Aug. 29 meeting at Homestead National Monument near Beatrice.
On the agenda is an 8:30 a.m. public hearing to establish regulations for the administration of firearm hunter education, bowhunter education and hunter education certificates of exemption; an 8:45 a.m. public hearing to approve 2008 waterfowl, crow and falconry season dates and regulations; and a 9 a.m. public hearing to consider authorizing a bighorn sheep hunting season and permit numbers for 2009.
Also on the agenda is:
– a recommendation to hold a public hearing at the next meeting to consider increases in permit fees for deer, turkey, elk, antelope and lifetime permits; and, establishment of a $5 non-refundable application fee for antelope permits; and, an electronic issue fee of $1 for annual and duplicate park permits, effective with 2009 permits;
– a recommendation to hold a public hearing at the next meeting to consider amending fishing regulations and bait collecting and dealer regulations;
– a recommendation to hold a public hearing at the next meeting to establish 2009 seasons and regulations for spring and fall turkey hunting;
– a recommendation to hold a public hearing at the next meeting to consider authorizing shared revenue auction permits for big game;
– a recommendation to hold a public hearing at the next meeting to consider removal of the bald eagle from the list of threatened species;
– a recommendation to hold a public hearing at the next meeting to consider allowing limited hunting opportunities at Fort Atkinson State Historical Park;
– a recommendation to approve an updated avian influenza surveillance and response plan;
– a recommendation regarding an annual review of game animals that may be hunted, open hunting periods, areas open for hunting and other special restrictions or limitations at Chadron State Park (SP), Eugene T. Mahoney SP, Platte River SP, Smith Falls SP, Indian Cave SP, Niobrara SP and Ponca SP;
– a recommendation regarding the use of seasonal blinds at Lake McConaughy State Recreation Area; – the drawing of the 2008 mountain (bighorn) sheep lottery permit.

Having moved to Kansas, I will comment here. The KDWP site is sharp and has a lot of information, but most of it is pretty generic. Their public access maps are much more difficult to access, and not as informative as those on the NGPC site. Having spent several hours browsing the the KDWP site, I would venture to say that the two are actually fairly similar. The major difference I see is that Kansas has a lot more public water to have information on, so it looks like there is a lot more information, but if you look closely, most of the information on said areas is actually the same.
