Exclamation 2008 NEFGA Buck Bash!! - Discussion -

I know most of us don't even know where our deer hunting boots are at the moment, but I want to take a minute and call everyone's attention to one of the other next "big things" that we'll be doing here on the NEFGA Forum.

We'll be hosting our first (and FREE!!) 2008 NEFGA Forum Big Buck Contest, sponsored by Cabela's.

This contest will be run very similar to our current "Catch and Continue Fishing Contest" which has been a total blast with something approaching 80 forum members entered and literally dozens of huge fish entered for the hundreds of dollars in prizes from Cabela's that we'll be awarding here very soon.

But it's none too early to be thinking about getting ready to enter your 2008 big buck in the category of your choice!

*Categories at this moment as planned will be:

Best Youth Buck:
All bucks taken by a youth (ages 10-15) during the 2008 Nebraska deer seasons are eligible for submission.

Best Archery Buck:
All bucks taken with archery equipment during the 2008 Nebraska archery season are eligible for submission.

Best Muzzleloader Buck:
All bucks taken with a muzzleloader during the 2008 Nebraska muzzleloader season are eligible for submission.

Best Rifle Buck:
All bucks taken with a rifle during the 2008 Nebraska rifle season are eligible for submission.

*Subject to change at the discretion of the NEFGA staff

This will be a contest that forum members will choose the winners by voting for their favorite deer in each category. This is not a contest to see who can kill the biggest buck.

Entries of each deer will consist of photos and the hunter's description of the hunt and his/her deer. Forum members will simply vote for their favorite hunter's entry in each category.

Again, we'll be awarding prize packages from Cabela's worth hundreds of dollars in each category to the winners!!

So, get out there! It's almost time to start doing some target practice and scouting (and figuring out how your camera REALLY works and where the spellchecker on your computer is!!)

We wish to extend a huge thanks to Cabela's for their support in making this Big Buck Contest. Please visit Cabela's online at Cabela's Official Website - Quality Hunting, Fishing, Camping and Outdoor Gear at competitive prices. or in one of their fabulous locations in your travels across Nebraska and the rest of the country! Their generous support demonstrates why they are the "World's Foremost Outfitter".

Stay tuned for more news as we get closer to the deer season opener!!

I'm guessing he means 2008-2009, but I might be wrong.

I'm going out on a limb with a prediction...

Best Archery Buck: flatcoats by a hair over BPbowhunter... just a guess.

I dont think so Im gna win that no probly not but I do try and kill booners everyyear. So far in the family we have a 206 5/8 and a 160 and 3/8 and thats from the last to years. I have my eye on a 170-180 archery buck I missed last year, not once but twice!! But he is still in his core area and I got his summer feeding pattern down to a T.

Remember its not about who can kill the biggest buck. So IMHO it could turn into a popularity contest.

Whether it is the biggest buck or best picture of a buck, it should be a cool contest. Thanks.

I think it should be a combination of biggest buck, best story, best quality of pictures. Regardless of how its put, someone that shoots a stud is gonna have a noted advantage anyways, so I dont think its fully necessary to make it completely on size of antlers.

Would a high fence buck count for the contest?

"This contest will be run very similar to our current "Catch and Continue Fishing Contest"

Do we have to shoot a doe each week to continue?

Don't think for a minute that we haven't talked about that!!

hehe

If we do measure horns, how do you guys think we should measure them and count score?

Points + inches of spread?

Points + plus biggest circumfrence at base?

It's going to be challenging to score horns from pictures!!

We'd like some input!!
