No subdivisions either. All bucks, no matter what weapon they were killed with, or the age of the hunter is necessary. Keep the "contest" simple.

The membership can then vote on which buck they think is the best. Top 3 or 5 entries would then be eligible for whatever prize(s) are available.

Another thing on the use of antler scores as an entry method: Who is going to verify that all the scores are accurate and not falsified? Who would be able/willing to verify that all entries were measured by official scorers? Anybody could lay tape to a set of antlers and give it a score and say it was "officially" scored. Or just give the antlers a rough estimate and enter it in.

Make it less about competition and more about fun which is what we all want to have when we're in the woods.

If your doing it by score, obviously you have to make a solid seperation. a 135 inch whitetail is more impressive than a 150 inch mulie, purely by the ability of one to grow much larger. If you are to compare both, then you need to compare it based on relation to a scale...whether it be P&Y and B&C. that way, you could compare relative to the species "standards"

I still think score should only be a small portion of the puzzle though. We can see in pics if a deer is a quality deer or not. And most that care can tell you relatively what class of deer it is without scoring it. The big bucks will have a noted advantage in voting anyways, no reason to give them the ultimate advantage. If someone shoots a 140" on heavily hunted public, and someone else shoots a 150" on a private lease specifically managed for whitetails..which is better? Thats where the voting should take place.

You guys make things too difficult. Do a best youth buck(10-15) and a best adult buck based on the story, the hunt, the picture, and then finally the antlers. If ya wanna seperate whitetail/mule deer, then make that distinction but your'e gonna see very few mule deer and those that do enter will have a much greater chance of simply winning by no other entries being entered. Make it one entry per person to avoid guys just shooting a buck to enter and make them think if the buck they are gonna shoot is really the one they wanna shoot or it's just an entry into a contest and they can enter another one during a different season. Ya can't put these back in the wild after ya release the arrow or pull the trigger.Have the members give points 1-5 on each category(pic, story, hunt, antlers) and tally the points at the end. If there is a tie, have 3 members(picked prior to the seasons) make the final decision.Good luck.

Alex

I'd be fine with that. Just want it to be more than just the antlers.

The point system would allow the antlers to be only 1/4th of the equation. Keeping youth seperate would keep a kid's first deer compassion from winning over a 50year old's buck of a lifetime(to him). Let the members rate each entry(based on a few things) and thus the points will tell who wins instead of each individual vote cause it'll take a cumulation(sp?) of points to win overall. Just a thought......

The pictures in this contest should be alot better than the ones taken in the fishing contest. You don't have to worry about keeping a deer alive long enough to take a picture and throw it back in the water. There should be some pretty creative pictures and great stories. The judging sounds like it might irritate a few people. Trail cam pics sound like a good idea.

Do does count then if antler score isnt a factor. Say a guy makes a hell of a nice shot on a doe and its his first deer then should that count. I have taken a couple nice bucks but its very hard to get creative pictures when you have two guys and you have blood all over your hands . I guess I do not understand the point of this contest, how do you win a contest when its not based upon the biggest animal taken?

When the title says BIG BUCK contest. Kinda makes one presume it's for deer with antlers only. And if ya gotta make a 400yd.(just a yardage I used for a "hell-of-a-shot") shot on a doe(or buck for that matter) in Nebraska,ya need to work on your hunting skills. The contest is based on a few factors, not just size. That's why a point score per category would be better than just picking one ya like and voting for it. I'd vote higher for a decent buck with an outdoor pic taken of it rather than a bigger buck taken in the back of the truck, hanging in the garage,or in someone's front yard.

Default Buck Bash Pre-Season Kick-off Contest !!

...and so, it begins!!!

2008 NEFGA Buck Bash Kick-off Contest!!

Ok, the actual contest will be start with the opening of archery and youth seasons on Sep 15th. Complete rules will be posted on Sep 1st.

This will be a FREE contest for Nebraska deer hunters.

OK, you've asked for it, and here it is!!

We're going to hold a pre-season kick-off contest for our 2008 Buck Bash!

All you trail-cam folks, this one's for you!!

We'll have a trail camera photo contest to kick this thing off!!

Rules: (always with the rules here, right?)

1. Control Item. A NEFGA sticker or facimile must appear in the photo with the deer in your picture. (extra points if the NEFGA sticker is actually on the deer in the pic)

2. Start date. Entries start at 12:00 a.m., August 23rd. Entries submitted early will be disqualified. Submit your pics in the Buck Bash Kick-off Trail Cam Photo Contest thread, which will be unlocked for entries prior to the beginning the start date and time.

3. Close date. The contest will close at 12:00 a.m. on Sep 8th.

4. Photo Contest. The is a photo contest. We're looking for the single best unretouched, unphotoshopped trail camera deer picture you can come up with. This could be a huge buck, it could be a picture of a couple bucks, or a whole herd of deer. The winner(s) will be selected by the NEFGA staff. If you get other critters in your pics, that's cool as long as the NEFGA sticker is there in the pic. Send 'em in. If you get sasquatch or OBG in your nightime pics, please keep them to yourself!

You can enter as many pics as you wish.

5. Control Item. I'm going to throw you all a bone and post a graphic right here of the NEFGA sticker that you can print out and use if you like. If you need stickers, I'll waive the shipping charges this week and sell them for $4 each and 3 for $10 if you let me know you need them for the contest and you submit payment via Paypal. Let me know and I'll invoice you, but you've gotta let me know within the next 48 hours or so for you to receive your stickers before Saturday. (I'll honor that price for anyone for stickers this week, in fact!)

Print this out if you need it for your control item. Either this image or an actual NEFGA sticker must appear stuck to a tree or rock or something in every trail-cam photo you submit!! Please do not staple the control item to OBG and make him stand there all night holding a deer sucker for your picture. This makes OBG surly!

Who loves ya, baby !?

6. Prizes. NEFGA will award a minimum of one $25.00 Cabela's gift card for this contest. If we get tons of interest and tons of great pics, we'll see what we can work out for more prizes. As always, if someone would like to throw down a little challenge and donate a gift card, that would be very cool.

Good luck everyone
and again a big 'thank you' to Cabela's for sponsoring our 2008 NEFGA Buck Bash!!
