Everyone should just get their buck scored by an official, that simple. Their are a lot of guys who are qualified to measure antlers. How are you going to have a comp based on just pictures. I have taken bucks that were hawgs, and the pictures dont do them justice. Not all of us are photographers.

I think how the original post has it planned is the same as the spring fishing contest we had earlier in the year? correct? It's not based on just size, its based on the story and all the other things that contributed to it.
Either way, size or best buck, would be fine with me.

i just dont want to see everyone out there so worried about inches on each particular deer. If you had a great story with getting a buck, and its a quality buck, I think that should mean something. Just because someone shoots a 157 and someone else shoots a 151 certainly doesnt mean they should automatically win. Im all for shooting mature bucks with big racks, but that isnt the only thing that matters.

Thats true man . A good buck and a good story is cool. But I gotta tell ya , Im not a storyteller. The thing I worry about is it turning into a popularity contest or something . But you know it is just for fun and heck hunting is all about fun. So who cares who wins it will be a blast to see everyones kills.

What about different categories.
1. Biggest buck (as measured by an official scorer) 2. Best picture (whether it be the biggest buck or the smallest, let the picture do the talking) If you have these two categories for every weapon or season type, that is a lot of prizes to give away, so whatever you guys think is best. |

Where is one supposed to find an official scorer? I love the idea of a Big Buck contest and think it will be fun for one and all. Are you going to seperate Muley's from Whitetails? The contest is a great idea. Last edited by Black Lab 1; 07-29-2008 at 02:20 PM. |

I know its a big BUCK contest, and I am after a big mature buck, I'm sure thats the driving force behind most people who hunt deer. I would also be in favor of some sort of recognition for those who help keep deer numbers in check by harvesting does, especially kids. Whith all the season choice and bonus doe tags there is more opportunity than I ever remember, and I would like to see that reflected some how in a contest. (first deer, first archery deer, biggest # doe, etc...)

I like the idea of the first buck, first archery buck etc... etc... Would give kids an opportunity to shine....And I already said before that the best trail camera picture would be great

My suggestion would be for a "Best Buck Photo" entry. No scores needed. Big or small, you shoot a buck, take a photo of it, and enter it into the contest if you wish.
No subdivisions either. All bucks, no matter what weapon they were killed with, or the age of the hunter is necessary. Keep the "contest" simple. The membership can then vote on which buck they think is the best. Top 3 or 5 entries would then be eligible for whatever prize(s) are available. Another thing on the use of antler scores as an entry method: Who is going to verify that all the scores are accurate and not falsified? Who would be able/willing to verify that all entries were measured by official scorers? Anybody could lay tape to a set of antlers and give it a score and say it was "officially" scored. Or just give the antlers a rough estimate and enter it in. Make it less about competition and more about fun which is what we all want to have when we're in the woods. |

****Are you going to seperate Muley's from Whitetails?****
Now, there's a good question!! You guys keep bringing up the trail camera division! How about this? Best Trail cam picture that has a picture of a deer AND a NEFGA sticker in the picture??!! Extra points if the sticker is actually on the deer, of course!! ![]() Who's game?

Speaking of trail cameras, here is one of the great prizes that will be awarded to one of the winners during the Big Buck Contest this season, right here during the NEFGA 2008 Big Buck Contest!!
Bushnell Trail Sentry 4.0 Megapixel Scouting Camera You can visit the Cabela's website and see all the great new trail cameras available this year at Cabela's, World's Foremost Outfitter! So how about it? Who's up for my challenge? Get a pic on your trail camera of deer with a NEFGA sticker in the picture?

Somebody can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the people who are coming up with the contest (namely Catfishsteve and maybe another director). I assume you ask because you are going to be working for a particular somebody?
I'm not sure but I don't see why not. Good question though.
