If you disagree with the canned shooting of livestock.......................

Please please please quit ever referring to it as 'hunting'!!!!! Every time anything is brought up refer to it as livestock killing/shooting. Maybe if enough of us would stop tying it into true hunting those lazy slobs/ego trip people will finally wake up and realize it is NOT hunting and that no one respects any mount that they have any more than if it was a cow head hanging on the wall.

Sorry for the rant but it drives me crazy to hear anyone refer to the farce of livestock killing as hunting!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's funny b/c I was up camping a couple weeks back with a tent (uses poles, canvas and string and makes a small enclosed space for sleeping, I can post a pic if needed) and I looked around and then drove around and besides little kids tents....I was the only tent in the park. I did however have to borrow an extenstion cord to blow up my air mattress..

Pro, you should come up with a new catchy name for canned operations, killing of livestock just won't catch on.

That is what i call it, I love to hunt. But I sure as hell dont go out there and kill something just to kill. For the life of me i cant understand why a guy would pay money to shoot a fenced in animal. ITS LUDACRIS

Is it as sporty as scaling half of an Alaskan mountain to shoot a Dahl Sheep from 700 yards? No. But is taking your kid on a "canned" hunt better than having him sit at home and play XBOX? Absolutely.

Guys that sit in a heated truck, watching a patch of woods, waiting for a deer to run out so they can lean over the hood of the truck and sniper it with a rifle from 300 yards away and pose with it like it was a hard earned trophy, and then proceed to have it stuffed and mounted on their wall to remind them everyday of that glorious hunt.

Well I'm new here but a very wise man once made something close to the following statement as a group of "traditional" bow hunters were squacking about the compound bow hunters not really being hunters at all. It went something like this "unless you are willing to give up your truck that you drive out to the field, give up your atv that you drive out to your tree stand, give up your steel store bought tree stand, give up your goretex thinsolate boots, give up your "real tree" camo and your purchased recurve/longbow then you really don't have room to talk. The next time I see one of you guys on your horse wearing your mocasins carrying cedar arrows and stone tips toting a osage bow you made yourself then you might have room to complain, until then I just don't care to hear about it." Ironically he does make his own shafts, tips and long bows but could care less if someone else uses a compound, or a recurve or a rock.

Call it what you want.

Exactly!! Technology and improving weapons is a TOTALLY different thing than shooting domesticated livestock behind a fence.
I too think it is a farce and should only be known as livestock killing like the original guy posted.

I'm against canned shooting, but it has nothing to do with superiority. This debate does seem to always head that direction though. I don't believe you can compare weapon technology here, just like you can't compare this to fishing. Some may absolutely be against it just to be on a high horse, though I think some of these guys here aren't trying to be superior to anyone. Some of us really believe this type of shooting is detrimental to the hunting heritage we have/had in the midwest. That same heritage nefga and other outdoor sites and hunting organizations work so hard to keep. My post is my opinion and in my opinion I am against canned gentrying not because I feel I'm better than those that do it, I'm against it b/c I see this form of recreation having a negative effect on something I love to do (hunting private/public land and chasing free ranging animals)

I am in no way an elitist type. I am all for use what ever weapon makes you happy and you like. BUT...........
The shooting of livestock is in no way shape or form a type of hunting. Not to mention it does nothing but give fuel to the antis and stroke some lazy guys ego.

I hear ya on the "canned" hunts. My old boss in Texas had this "deer lease" that had corn feeders set up everywhere and a feeder on the back of the hunting truck. Like going to the petting zoo to go hunting. I went with once. That feeder turned on hanging off the back of the truck and the deer would literally run up to the truck. I put my rifle down and declared "this isn't hunting". I'm used to freezing my butt off in a tree stand in the middle of winter and waiting for hours, tracking etc....

I wasn't very popular with that group after that.

Just because some thing is legal does not make it right!! There have been plenty of things that were legal at one time or another that are now illegal. Take cocaine for example... do you want that to be legal since it was at one time??!!!

As stupid things come about there has to be laws against them to help control the stupidity.
Fenced livestock killing is one of them.
