I started hunting some 40 years ago. Bowhunting is a way of life for me. I've hunted in a number of countries and lots of places here in the US. Over the years I've tried lots of different methods including the use of dogs, bait/foodplots, drives, and yes, even canned hunts. Some methods I enjoyed, and some not so much. From reading all these posts I get the feeling that those who have gone to a pheasant farm or hunted an enclosure are ok with it. Those who haven't, see it as an evil endevor which will ruin hunting. If it's fenced it's not fair chase. All other (legal) methods are fair chase. So what is fair chase? A reasonable chance for the prey to escape, right? But isn't there more to it than that? Spring bear hunting over bait. Fair chase? Antelope hunting over the only water for 20 miles during a heat wave. Fair chase? Hunting deer over the only unpicked cornfield in the county. Fair chase? Running bear, hogs, or lion with packs of dogs. Fair chase? Those methods might be fair chase to some but not to others. When we get rid of all the high fence operations let me know who to go after next.

There is one BIG difference in all your examples........

They are all wild animals EXCEPT for the fenced in killing of livestock. They all have a chance to go some place else EXCEPT for the fenced in livestock.

It's an animal, not a person. I don't see why everyone is so worked up about this. Who cares?
If you don't like it, don't do it. And if it continues to stay legal, all you alpha hunters will have lesser humans to look down your noses at.

Why should we care??!! Because the killing of livestock being passed off as hunting is a HUGE blackeye to hunting. With all the antis around we actual hunters need to keep away from any bad press we can. If a person truly cares about hunting then they should fight tooth and nail against this joke(canned killing) being passed off as anything else.

If a person wants to go shoot some pen raised birds in training his dog there is nothing wrong with that if he doesn't try to say he went 'hunting'.
If someone wants to go shoot an elk, deer of whatever and say they killed a livestock elk, deer or whatever that is fine but for dang sure don't say you went 'hunting'!!!
If a person feels they need to shoot a pen raised animal and call it 'hunting' then they need some serious help.

I agree Hunter. And like i said in the beginning of this, Im not fighting for the extermination of all, or any of the fences around. My issue lies with it being misconstrued as actual hunting. If there's a market for it, and its controlled within reason, so be it. But it sure as heck is in no relation to real hunting

Default going to the zoo tomorrow.

I am going to the zoo tomorrow and was wandering if anyone would want to go maybe I can bring my 7 mag. It is foolish to allow canned hunting to go on and in the long run it is going to hurt are sport. I know there are billlions of responsible hunters out there we just need to ban together and get this stopped.

Why would canned hunting make me cry now thats not nice are you getting angry over this converstion? I think you are getting mad because you dont have any support under this subject and that is not my fault. All I am going to say about this canned hunting is that it is pathedic and makes true sportsman look like hillbillies. Do everyone a favor and makes these petting zoos history, sooner rather than later I hope.

My friend, I could care less if everyone on this forum sees things the way you see them...I have my opinions, and I definately have no problems voicing them, with or without support.

There is no anger in the things I say. Frustration? Absolutely. You're a sportsman, and you think these canned hunting operations give true hunting a bad name. I understand your point...and I agree with you. It is not "real" hunting, and it is certainly a sham. You'll get no argument out of me there.
However, your viewpoint is very shortsighted. You're wanting someone (the government, most likely) to step in and shut down a legitimate and legal business to appease an interest group (REAL hunters.) I have a huge problem with that.
