White crappie: 60-65 F
Black crappie: 62-68 F (Found these from a Google search last year, but forgot to save the source. Sorry.)

Anytime you see the water move up around 57-58, it's time to get ready. We've done real well on some area reservoirs when the water is in that range.

No kidding. My sandpit was at 54 then in a few days it hit 44. Crazy weather anyway!

You may think the action is always best at the spawn or just over 60 degrees, but there is some really good action right before the spawn when the temp is in the mid 50's. Crappie get really shallow during the spawn often in less than a foot of water. Just look a little deeper when the temp is less than the "spawning temp". I use a 2 ft to 1 degree rule of thumb when the temp is less than 60. If the temp is 55...look along the break lines close to spawning areas that are in 10 ft of water and so on. This will get you pretty close to the fish even when you aren't hitting the perfect spawning temp. My best crappie days every year occur before the spawn.
