Default fluorocarbon fishing line

Does anyone have a fluorocarbon line they like? I like Seaguar ($15 a spool), but if the line kinks easily and will break. I tried Vicious fluorocarbon (only $6 a spool), but I wouldn't recommend buying it. I used it on a trip to Texas at the end of March and the line shredded three times on me. I don't know how else to describe it...it shredded. Any very good fluorocarbon lines out there?

I started using Triple Fish fluorocarbon last year and was very happy with the product. Here is where I get mine.

Anyone like Vanish? I have it on one baitcaster. I still have a bird's nest on there the size of my head from last fall. I wish to point out that the bird's nest was entirely operator error and no reflection on the line itself.

I can bird nest anything.

Anyone like Vanish?

Thanks. I'll give it a try. I trust that TritonMike knows what he is talking about, especially since he makes a living as a guide.

I had somewhat of a problem with Vanish already this year. Had it on 2 different spools and the first spool was fine, the 2nd was really coiled up after about my 5th cast. Switched over to P-line and didnt have a problem the rest of the day.

Another buddy of mine was complaining about his line doing the same exact thing. In both cases it was 6lb line so, I wouldnt think it would take up the memory so fast.

Also, I just read that Kevin Van Dam used Triple Fish to win the 2001 Bassmasters Classic. Can't be too bad. TritonMike says to use the braid knot at the following website. http://triplefish.net/knots_.html

Good info..

Ok that brings up another question or two.

Out of those that have been using fluoro, what knots have you been using? Have you had any problems getting a good knot?

I tried Vanish last year. It worked okay for afew days then went to the dogs . It had horrible memory and had weak spots like I've never seen before!

I'll just stick with Mono.

I've been using the San Diego knot, especially with flourocarbon line.

Goose, I use Vanish and Vanish Transition in very light weights (#2, #4, & #6) for flyfishing tippets for anything other than dry flies. I also use the #2 Vanish and #2 P-Line for building furled leaders.

In my opinion, there is a MAJOR difference in knot-holding ability between these fluorocarbon lines and conventional monofilament. I raised this question one day with Larry in the fly fishing department at the LaVista Cabela's, and he agreed.

His answer was to add some extra twists to knots like the Improved Clinch and Uni-Knot, aka Duncan Loop. (If you usually do four "wraps" when you tie an Improved Clinch, do six with fluoro.) He and I agreed it's also vital with fluoro to use plenty of spit, and to pull the knot together smoothly, don't jerk it tight.

For my purposes, fluoro works great. But I still add a dot of super glue to the loop knots on my furled leaders, just to be sure.

I have started using braided line for flats and eyes in snaggy area's. Spiderwire stealth

Stuff scare's me cuz i think you could loose a finger with the stuff if you are not carefull.

Have never tried Fluorocarben.

But here is a link with some more info.

I've used Vanish quite a bit for walleyes the last couple years in both 8 and 10 pound test. I'm not sold yet. I love the sensitivity of it, but it does seem to gain memory awfully quick. I usually use a palomar knot and have had no problems with slippage or the knot breaking.

Default fluorocarbon

I have gone to fluorocarbon on my leaders only. I fish a lot of lindy rigs throughout the course of the year and I run 4-6 pound test off my swivel. No need to worry about memory if it is just on the leader.

Been using P-Line fluoro for a long time,5 years or so,before that Seagar, before that Vanish and Transition.I took Vanish off when I got home from fishing, hated it.Tried Transition, was ok,then tried Seagar. That was good stuff, but put on some P-line and that is my go to for fishing jigs, all soft plastics. As far as knots I use palomar, trilene knot, improved cinch.

I used vanish for a while, BUT after a few days of fishing I had a lot of trouble with line twisting. Used Trilene knot. Tried Fireline, didn't like the way it sheds, also had trouble getting bites in clear water. Now using Spiderwire Stealth and a vanish leader. We have about 5ft of visibility under 30 ft. of water. Used on a spinning reel

I have been using Seaguar Invisix and have had good results with it, it is very limp and has good knot strength. I am trying out the Gamma line this year. I hated the Vanish products, they had too much memory and low knot strength. There is a good review of a lot of the lines on tackletour.com. http://www.tackletour.com/reviewfluorocarbontest.html

I used P-Line on one of mine and my wife's baitcasters last year and had no problems. Always used uni-knot with fluorocarbon.

Interesting article on TackleTour compares various flourocarbon lines... http://www.tackletour.com/reviewfluorocarbontest.html

If I'm reading the results of the fluorocarbon tests correctly, I would have to say that BPS FC is an excellent line, especially when considering the cost. I'm thinking I may have to try it.
