I have had a one-man clam flip top. Worked well, but for a lineman sized fella, a bit small. Bought a two-man flip top from Scheel's and have been please for the most part.

Yes you can raise the canopy to create an effective wind break, just use the seperator rods.

Fishing in the wind is a challange whether or not you have a fish house. Invest in rope and ice anchors, BUT make sure to tie off on the plastic sled - NOT the tent. May also be to windy for the tent to be upright, poles have been bent from a heavy wind.

It is a funny site to see an ice house sliding across the ice ... unless it's yours .

Charlie

I have fished from a Frabil flip top and agree with others, the quality of parts is less than Clam. Have not fished from others, but Otter looks good from afar, would like a closer look!

A couple of the canopy rods were injured last year. Found that my Scheels was built by Clam, so I've bought the necessary parts that need replaced. I've also found that all the parts of my sled can be replaced from the parts list of the Clam - Voyager oh happy days.
ps: make sure your sled doesn't ride under the trailer hitch of the four wheeler in/on a trailer. The four wheeler WILL bounce in transit and you don't want the canopy/rods under the bouncing hitch ! I'm just saying!

I called Cabela's last night and the model I was looking at is the Fish Trap Guide. I am going to Rapid City to hopefully get it on Saturday. If they don't have it in stock then I guess I will just be ordering it.

Just a heads up...
Clam no longer makes the Guides from my understanding. They redesigned several of their models this year. The Guide from last year is now the Nanook. Very similar to last years guide, just $50 cheaper and the seats inside are little smaller.

I myself am trading in my Clam 2000 for the new Fish Trap Nanook. It looks like a versatile shack for 1 or 2 people and you can't beat the price for what you're getting.

I know it. But unfortunately Cabelas's does not carry the newer Clam Shelters and the closest Bass Pro is in Denver which is still a good 5 hours away. I really don't want to pay shipping. Amazes me though that the older model is still more expensive than the newer.

If you order from Cabelas and have it shipped to the Cabela's store near you, and you pick it up I believe the shipping is free.

Default Fish Guide

If you buy the Fish Guide make sure that it comes with the kit for the bench seat. Clam changed the design because the bench seat collapsed the sides of the sled.

I bought the "Fish Trap Guide" this weekend and it is spread out all over my living room. (Thank goodness I live by myself!). I have it half way put together and have come to realize that though Clam may be a good company when it comes to ice fishing gear, their instructions SUCK! They didn't even include all the screws, washers, and nuts. Oh well, I guess I will hit the hardware store and get the rest of what I need. Can't wait to get this up and ready to use.

Bring on the ice!!
