Default My top 5 Flies for the year

I have had a lot of people ask me "what flies do you like?" or "what should I tie?" I though this would be a good way to get the fly community to to add there two cents. Pictures or links would be help full.

Thanks Bryan

Mine would be:
  1. The Hammer (an Egan's Headstand variant)
  2. The Flanders Rubber Leg Nymph
  3. Briminator (Hammer color variant)
  4. Shad dart
  5. Black Wooly Bugger

What are your top five flies for the year?

Nice to see the favorites from the year………

Mine ….

Brown Woolly Bugger till apparently it hit a snag and broke off.

Purple/black Woolly Bugger till it got shredded by a run of fish

Black Woolly Bugger because that's all I have left besides prince head nymphs that have not caught anything yet

Might as well laugh at yourself when you can. Next year hopefully I can expand that list and say that they were made by my own hand

Making poppers can be fun, I took the advice of another member on here and now make my own bodies too.

Painting poppers with patterns and designs, for the fish, or for the fisherman?

I'll play along.........by the way I love that shad dart FBW.

1) Olive bugger
2) Foam beetle
3) Black Bugger
4) Foam Spider
5) Flash Dance (it's an at home design by one of my friends for Pike. We used it in a Western Nebraska sandhills lake and HAMMERED them). I coined it flash dance because it's basically a bunch of tinsel tied to a 1/8 with purple

BTW, the black buggers are still drawing the bass out of the depths. My buddy caught several on Saturday.

Keep in mind, these are the selections of a very conventional fairy wander....don't take them as expert advice. These are just what I caught the most on this year.

It's a Ward Bean fly, the orange variation works very well too.

My top 5 in no real specific order...

Wray's Hammer
Size 10 Wooly Bugger (white, yellow, black, color didn't seem to matter)
Foam spider and Poppers
Beadhead Rubber-Legged Hares Ears
Scuds worked well too

This fly kicked out a lot of fish towards the end of the year though, im certain it will be a Killer fly in the years to come.

I'll get a picture or two at some point. I just got a hook order today, expecting sheep hides in the next day or two.

I'll take a separate one, but you can see it in my Avatar picture from a little more of a distance. It's on the end of my leader on my fly rod in the picture.
