My father works at the "Commission" as he calls it (and others I find out) and came across the Trout Fishing in Nebraska Stream publication. We took a look at this before going out to a trip to Ogallala for some trout fishing. I will have to share pictures in another thread. About a month ago I was visiting my in-laws in Albion, NE when my father-in-law told me about the Royal Rearing Station. We went up there and it was a fun and neat experience being a "city boy" and all. We then fished the creek nearby just for fun. Not even using my fishing gear, I caught a 13" brown trout and a 13" rainbow. I told my father about it and tried to look up where we were. Find out that I was at Verdigre Creek (listed in the publication) and one of the most popular trout streams in Nebraska. Now we are all excited knowing now that my in-laws are only an hour away from this wonderful place. My father and I are planning a trip up there on Saturday for the day and I was hoping for some advise on "good" locations along the stream and techniques that may help us that are different from "lake trout fishing" techniques. Thank you.

Verdigre is a gem in the eastern half of the state. A 13" brown from there is something only a few NEFGA members can claim (I'm NOT one of them).
I won't even pretend to know that creek as well as others on here (and haven't been up there since late spring), so the only advice on where would be to fish everywhere you can. I don't know what "hatch" may be happening either, but a copper john or pheasant tail is always a good place to start.

I lived in Neligh for 14 years and spent a lot of days on the creek. My favorite time of year was in the winter months. Beautiful country and some nice fish to be caught if one is patient and learns the ways of the stream.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I was still using fishing gear...I just happened to be using my father-in-laws gear...not mine.
