Default Trout at Lake Halleck in Papillion

New to the Forum...thank you all for the stories, pictures, and random bits of knowledge...part of the reason I decided to sign up.

Since they stocked the lake, the trout fishing has been good. However, I have not caught a single fish with worms or powerbait. Several others I've been fishing next too havn't had much luck either with corn or other typical trout baits. What my father and I have been using are Joe's Flies and catching plenty of fish.

10/20 Stock day - landed 7 during an hour and a half and lost several others (released that day).

10/21 - landed 8 during the day and kept 6. Spent about an hour and a half in the morning and then another hour at lunch (its nice having a fishing hole 10 min from work).

10/24 - went with my Dad as the weather for Verdigre Creed wasn't panning out. I landed 3 or 4 (released) and my Dad landed 10 and kept his limit of 8.

Great place for kids with a park and easy access. They seem to be biting more there than Holmes or Standing Bear from what I've been reading.

I'll post more stories from our succussful trip to Ogallala and the unsuccessful "snow" trip back when they got the 12+ inches of snow!

Lake Halleck has always been my go to place for trout. Never had much luck at Standing bear.

Welcome to the forum.
I had to 'google' Joe's Flies. It's an inline spinner for those of you as ignorant as I.

Jim

PS. thanks for the tip on the new trout regs for special stocked lakes. I didn't know it was raised from 7 to 8. Heck, I thought it was 6 for some reason.

You might check page six of the regulations. 10/21 kept 6 of a daily limit of 4 ?

From the fishing guide.

The trout daily bag limit and
possession limit has been increased
from 7 and 14, respectively to 8 and 16
at designated put and take lakes and
ponds that do not support trout yearround
and are stocked in the fall,
winter, and/or spring.

I went to Lake Halleck during lunch today (11/4) for some quick fishing therapy. The trout are still there and still biting. I caught 6 during my half hour session.

Man, that'd be cool to just go out and fish over your lunch. You don't eat? I don't think I would either.
