Default Fishing In Central Nebraska

I had been awaiting this day all week long, the day flyboywray and I planned on taking the trek west and fish yanney park for some super trout. we gt to the lake and met up with slimdog and talked and then we noticed a guy reeling in a big trout on his fly rod on the apossing bank... so I walked to the other side and asked what he caught and it and we talked for a bit and I missed 2 big trout a hooked a huge one for about 1 second before it came unpinned. It was amazing watching such a big fish come up from the side and nail my dry fly.

Slimdog managed to get a nice 6lb 4oz on the fly which took him to his backing, hopfully corey will post pics later, awsome fish man! I ended up getting a few smallish bass, and some Nice gills...

9"(also got a 9 1/2" earlier in the day but no pic)

And in the last 10min of the day I decided to tie on a fly that I tied that bryan really liked, first cast I strip the line and my fly line gets pulled out of my fingers! I got thie pig of a gill, it was just shy of 10" but it was a very thick and tall fish, I think it would have atleast been a pound.

Bryan also managed some decent gills, a decent crappie and even managed to snag a bass in its tail.

Although I did not get was I initially intended to get(A big trout) the big gill I got at the end of the day definetly make it better!

Nice fish, guys! That had to be more fun than watching the Huskers get their butts handed to them I'll be out chasing trout tomorrow myself after work at Holmes. 70 degrees and stocking day is a good reason to leave work at noon right? That's what I thought.

I got to Yanney about 9:00 and started chucking a kastmaster and managed 3 10”-12” LMBs. LL & FBW showed up and immediately LL was in serious fishing mode. FBW and I were conversing as he was getting set up and the next thing we know, LL was half way around the lake! We made our way down to the south side. Fishing along the way. FBW gave me an informal casting lesson that helped a ton. I was really bad before the lesson, now I’m bordering on so-so! After the casting lesson LL popped over the hill and let us know that the gills were biting. We made our way to the beach and found our spots. I scored 2 chunky 8 ½ or 9 inch gills and after a couple of knuckle-busting runs, my first Bow on a flyrod:

I didn’t get a length, but the fish weighed in at 6lbs 4oz. The fly used was a BH Wooly Bugger in chartreuse.

Here is another shot of FBW’s crappie and LL’s bullgill.

Yesterday was excellent guys. I’m just sorry you guys didn’t get a trout. LL, it was great to finally meet you in person. FBW, great to see you as always. I bet I haven’t fished with a fly rod that much in the last 2 years! FBW, thanks for the pointers & flies. Next time less yakking and more fishing!

Oh yeah. We also saw several other NEFGA members. Crappie&Eyes, greencaspa, and another gentleman and his son, but I didn’t catch his handle.

Nice Gill and Trout! I hit it on Friday and caught one super trout. They are getting thinned out and those that are left are a little smarter so good job!
