Default taking daughter fishing

I bought a boat last week so my daughter and I could go fishing together. Ok Ok i know you dont need a boat but i dont care for bank fishing. She is 4 and is looking forward to going. My question is im letting her use my ice fishing pole because it fits her nicely. What could I do to make this a fun first time fishing from a boat? I dont plan on doing any fishing myself because i want this to be all about her. Its a Lund 14' alum v-hull. I bought it because its deep and wide which should be safer then a bass boat. I plan on taking LOTS of pics and will post a pic of her with her first fish ever. I think im more excited then she is. LOL

Speaking from experience,
Ship or Shore , catching bluegills can be easy and will please any 4 yr old. Your boat is small enough to go on any of the many small lakes that hold panfish. If you have a electric trolling motor that will get you most anywhere. Word of advice, good or bad fishing keep the trip brief followed by a trip for ice cream and she'll begging to go next time. good luck and we're all looking foward to the pics.

Default learning myself, but...

I learned not to leave anything within reach that you DO NOT want to go into the water, but my daughter is nearly 2 and may be more amused by splashy noises than your 4-year old.

Maybe even consider bringing an extra rod for yourself. That way you can set the hook and let her have the fun of landing the fish.

Totally agree with the bluegill idea Slakline threw out there. If you want a suggestion for location, take the boat to Johnson Lake in Fremont. There are a TON of gills in there that are happy to bite on a worm and bobber. We took my buddies son out there last year and he had a ball!

My guess is that you could go about any place around the area. I took my three grandkids out last weekend - Prairie View. Like you... 14' aluminum boat, 18hp motor (not needed), and electric (also not NEEDED but recommended!).

Had some REALLY cheap, mini-spincast reels and short (easier for them to handle), and wimpy rods that I had pre-rigged with slip-bobbers. Got worms on the way (FOR FISHING).

It was all I could do to keep up with taking the fish off and re-baiting hooks! Caught 'gills, crappie, and even a couple of 12-13" bass! We fished for about two hours, right in the middle of a HOT afternoon. They had a great time!

One tip... sometimes the "resident" toilets are not very... ahh... "clean". Make sure they all use the restroom BEFORE they leave home. Maybe also throw a soda or two in a small "cooler-bag" so they have something to drink if they get thirsty.

Good luck and have fun

A chunk of a worm under a bobber should catch her some gills! Whatever you can do to catch a fish, wether its you are her, will go a long way to getting her pumped to go again!

We were just looking at some pics the other day of my son's first fish. A 8" blue gill and he was grinning ear to ear! Had a blast. He's 10 now and still has that grin, on ever single fish! Just bagged his first MA bass on his ultralight the other day!! That grin was a little wider!!!!

Default Kid pole

Maverick, I have a 3 year old daughter that I take fishing with me, I also have a 14 ft lund......it works great on most lakes around here. I would suggest getting her a pole of her own like a barbie or dora pole, you can get them at walmart for under $10.00........she will take great pride in catching her first fish on her own pole. Have fun.

If you go to Scheels, they sell a 5' medium action Barbie pole that has worked really well for us so far. I think they're $20 for the whole setup, but I had to replace the reel with a Zebco 33 to make it hardier (she broke the Barbie reel playing around the house )

I have the barbie pole for my 4yr old and my 3yr old son has the cars one. We caught a bunch of blue gills Lakeside and they had a blast. Bobber and hook, worked great and they had a blast reeling in their fish. Make sure to have water and snacks along. Definently water in these temps. There is nothing better than seeing a kid that age hooking a fish.

you could try holmes if you have a trolling motor... lots of gills and plenty of bass. an easy way to catch bass that I have found when in a boat if yu just want to get numbers instead of size, take a small/medium sized inline spinner or a beetle spin and just toss it behind the boat a little ways and troll them along the dam, the jetties on the south side of the lake, and other places. Ive doen this many times while we are riding back to the boat ramp and caught several 10-12 inch bass by just trolling these baits.

good luck!

She did ask me last night before I took her back to her moms if her pole was a princess one. So i guess i'll take her to walmart so she can pick something out. Im going to grab a zebco 33 also to add to it. She had a barbie pole that she practice casting with and shes really good at it, i was impressed. Dang kids will surprise you all the time.

Amen, Buglem! In a few hours you will definitely be able to hook into 100+ fish. I go out there by myself all the time because it's fun and super close to my house. I can often catch gills on a small chunk of rubber worm under a bobber...that way you don't even have to worry about the gills stealing your worm and not hooking themselves.

minnows are cheap entertainment if the fish aren't biting.

They make a Dora pole that floats. I saw that at Shopko. It may be a wise investment. Worms and minnows will keep her entertained but she might not want to fish much after she starts playing with them. I'd 2nd Holmes if your in the Lincoln area. Go out in the center towards the dam and drift a small blue silver tube jig about 18 inches off the bottom in the deeper water.. You'll have gills and no weeds..
