Lmao at that pic. of kershaw..Funny it didn't surface until he was out of the country
I love fishing and hunting because you never know what the day will bring. It could be the day that you catch or tag the big one, fill you bag limit on big old canadas and greenheads, or have the pheasants hold tight and flush at your feet etc. That feeling is what gets me up on those early mornings that the alarm seemingly rings right after I've just crawled in bed, or it has me staying in the stand on those almost unbearable strong northwind days until dark with the windchill below zero. I also like hanging with the guys and hunting with my dad like the rest of you guys, but I also enjoy quiet mornings in the boat by myself everyonce in awhile. It gives me time to reflect and make up some very good fish stories!Last edited by huskerbowhunter; 10-24-2008 at 12:39 AM. |

I like it because it's underwater hunting. You scout the area. figure out the lake, present different lures in different ways (depending on a host of factors) and try to entice them into biting. Best of all you can let them go after you have caught them (if you want). Fishing with others is great since you can learn so much just by watching other people and how they fish or what they use. It's a never ending sport. There is always room for improving your skills and learning. Master one species and move on to the next.

To me it's all about when the alarm goes rings at 530am from The Bose CD clock purchased at Wal-mart. I get up and shower with Axes mens body wash. Pour a hot cup of Folgers coffee and eat my crispycreme donuts. Check the Team Daiwa Reel, that's spooled with Trilene line that's fresh, bend the St. Croix rod, just to check the action, as a dreams of a state record fish swim through my head. I get in the Ford Explorer and drive to the perfect wind driven point, but stop to fill the tank at U-stop and pick up some Dasani water and Jack Links beef jerky first. I slip into my Cabelas 5mm neoprene waders and Hodgman wading jacket. Tie a new AnglerX jig on and start casting. I enjoy the sunrise through my Maui Jim polarized sunglasses. Watching the geese coming off the lake and think soon I'll be out in my FinalApproach laydown blind, with a dozen of BigFoot Decoys and they somersaut into my spread from the coaxing of my Zinks Power Clucker call. The sudden stop of the jig and drag screaming brings me back to reality, another fine master angler wiper! Yep! that what it is all about to me!

My love of fishing....
Being away from the computer, the television, society as a whole (especially when I go on camping trips), my cell phone not working (too far out of range), trying new techniques, new baits. Meeting new anglers that take time to help me learn new things. Cleaning up after other lazy people does give me a sense of satisfaction as well. Time spent with my kids fishing is priceless. Teaching them how to tie knots, and most importantly, setting fish/frogs/turtles back in the water with a great sense of respect to grow another day. ![]() Most importantly, releiving stress and watching nature and realizing I have it pretty darn good. ![]() |

Daryl is the profound one.
For myself fishing is somewhat of a communion of spirit and life. Not a lot of issues when your greeting the sunrise on a favorite lake. It's a moment shared with a friend, conversation not a must - because nothing needs to be said that each doesn't already understand. The excitement of that special hook- up and hoping you get to see what is on the end of the line.

I love communing with nature whether it is fishing, hiking or hunting. Being out in the early morning fog or dangling my feet off the kayak in the hot afternoon sun or watching the sun go down while I'm waiting for the catfish to start biting. The smell of the air, the silence at times. The sound of Sandhill Crane wings overhead or goslings swimming past. Patiently waiting for the sound of line ripping off the reel & my opponent breaking the surface. Oh yeah!!

Why do I love fishing? It's always new and different each cast and each fish. The tap...tap....tap then the hook set and the surprise of what is on the hook and how big it is. Seeing the joy of my kids as they reel in anything that bites. The smell of the water on the breeze and watching nature while I just do what comes naturally to me. It's just part of my being and without it I am a grumpy cuss.
