Hey I am thinking of doing some fly fishing for rainbows tomorrow at holms lake and was wondering what kind of flies are good for trout?
Thanks, LincolnLunger

I would try bead head olive wooly buggers to start. Then maybe a hare's ear or scud.

Match the hatch! Brown wooly worms #10 looks the most like Purina trout chow.

Caddis , Royal Trudes, Prince nymphs, bead head nymphs, stone flys, ants, wooly buggers. If I were fishing for trout at Holmes I would try streamers.

When I hit the lake for them this fall, I think I will probably be fishing two flies until I figure out what they want. Probably a bugger of some type (olive or brown) at the end of the line, and above that a Hares ear or Phaesant Tail nymph.
To get them both on there, when I tie on that last peice of tippet, I leave a 4-5 inch tail at the knot. (I use a double surgeons knot and leave the tippet end long) Then I have two places to tie on a fly. If I am using a loop-to-loop connection (like with a furled leader) When I tie the loop for the tippet, I tie it with about 4-6 inches of 'waste' below the loop knot and will tie the dropper fly in there. In other words, when you tie a loop in the tippet to attach it, with a two foot peice, tie the loop at about 18 inches and leave the tag long. Then you can tie the point fly (bugger) on the long end and the dropper (nymph) on the other shorter end. Good luck!

#14 beadhead pheasant tail nymph tied on a scud hook. Remember, you heard it here first.
![]() On days when absolutely nothing is working, and you need all your remaining dynamite to remove stumps, humor them with a #12 white woolly bugger.

Now, in MY opinion, dynamite would be a better choice than launching "scuds". The accuracy of the "scuds" is poor at best, and "collateral damage" to the innocent can be immense! Harold F.
