From what I am seeing, everyone is catching them on little spinners, after a week or so they should start biting good on that stuff, worms and marshmellows ect. I have seen a few caught on power bait however.

I don't know about down there, but I have always had a pretty solid success rate using Kastmaster's.

Caught 2 today on an inline spinner. They were jumping all over the place, just couldn't seem to hook into them as much as i wanted. Pretty good little fighters though. They were the first two i have ever caught. Interesting little buggers, here's a pic of one of them.

throw panther martins... you might catch a couple more fish I have been using the #1 size but A friend of mine was using the #4 the other night and he could have caught a limit for 5 guys all by himself! he was catching them like crazy. I think its more location know than the lure choice IMHO There are spots you might catch one here and there but some spots they are just stacked and you could practically catch them every other cast.

Good luck fishing... Oh yah is anyone going to be out there tomorrow night? I will be out there.

1/32 oz Roadrunner from BPS. (Cabelas does not carry the 1/32 oz since they are "new" within the last 2 years or so.....buuuuuuuuuuurrrrrrnnnnnnn) -- tipped with a kernel of corn. Almost feels like cheating.

P.S. -- the 1/16 oz are a tad big I think.

I forgot to metion... have any of you guys noticed how little some of the trout out at holmes are? I caught some that was probably 7 inches long the other night and they were tiny...are they starving them at the hatchery or something? it just seems liek quite a few of the trout are smaller than normal this year... althought I did catch a couple trout that were probably 12 inches

Tony, I caught 6 or 7 of them by the bridge on Sat. morning, there arn't a lot over that way but there are a few that have made it that far. It is a good spot so far because you don't have to deal with the crowd in other places.

Depth on retrieve makes a difference...morning and evening (w/spinners) you can catch them shallow and deep, mid-day move deeper and slower.

I had the best luck when I could cast along a shoreline about 10-15 feet from the bank and retrieve parallel to the bank...following grasslines.
And if they are jumping in an area cast beyond the group and retrieve through them, they will chase.

BTW, I know most people are aware of this but just in case, Trout are not very hardy. If you plan on keeping them then no worries, otherwise try to handle them as little as possible and release them quickly.

Good luck.

Default Another "Helpful Hint from Harold"

I will "scout" the lake with a 00 Mepps to find the stockers, and then follow-up with a 1/32 oz jig with a small ball of Berkely Trout Bait, "free line jigging" in the same area.

This allows a slow presentation in that area.

Harold F.

Hint: IF you are planning to KEEP THE FISH, open the jig hook slightly to increase your bite/catch percentages! Like fishing for Crappie, you do NOT need to "set the hook", but simply maintain the pressure on the line.

Some really good information here guys!

I have also noticed that if I see some jumping close to where I am, and throw the spinner over them and bring it accross the area, I will more than likley catch one!

I was out there last night and only managed one trout. I must say the trouts vary in size this year. Troy I'm going to have to try casting pass where you see them jump to see if that works. They seem to be jumping a lot but too far for me to cast so I will be using my waders I got in the spring.

That has been working for me too, I have had the best luck fishing the jetties in the morning and evenings. The trout seem to shut-down in the afternoon hours.

Good luck!

The trout this year are def. more spread out in size from what I have seen in other years. I have caught really small ones and also pretty good sized ones...
