They always have had that net there, but there have been numerous holes put in the net somehow (boat motors, etc.) and some of the trout always escape to the main lake. They have always TRIED to keep the trout in the south basin, it just really hasn't worked like that YET!

The net wasn't there all summer. They had it there all last fall and winter though. Looks like they're gonna do it again this year. Does anyone know why? As I understand it it's to keep the trout on the south end. But why? Whats the significance of keeping them in the south end?

Confining the trout to a smaller area increases the number of fish per acre, this likey improves the overall catch rate for anglers, these are put and take fish. Catch rates are based on the number of fish caught per angling hour.

Default Go catch em!

Hey guys, they stocked the trout in holmes lake today! I will not be able to make it today but I am going to try to be out there tomorrow. BTW this is the first time I seen the net there the last couple summer when I was fishing under the bridge I even through a deep diving crankbait to see if there really was a net but never snagged anything so I dont think its always been there.

Well yeah, of course they don't have the net there in the summer, the trout die and it don't matter then, but they have always had it in the winter; atleast the last 2 years.

Do the trout stocked in Holmes survive long or just die off?

They will die once the water gets warm, maybe the pointy headed one can give us some more info on that as I am not sure what temp. they die at.

There is an "older fellow" that is at holmes lake all the time fishing for trout and catfish, He showed me some picture of trout that he caught out of holmes lake that were definetly bigger than the 10 inch stockers so I guess they would survive for awhile... Hey troy did you make it to holmes today?

I thought you had to be under 16 or something like that to fish that area?

I didn't make it out today, I had class all day and my night class. I'll prolly make it out tomorrow to catch some of those slimers, that is if I can get my car fixed before then.

I went out to holmes lake this afternoon/evening for soem trout fishing. On my third cast I caught an 11 inch largemouth and then caught nothing for about an hour after that and nobody else wasd catching anything either. Then as the evening progressed The fish decided to start biting and I went over to the concrete ramp area and caught two. After that I headed over to the jetty and caught 6 more trout, a tiny bass, and a greensunfish all within an hour or so, I had a blast catching them. one of my dads friends was out there this morning and caught 18 trout and then he went back out this afternoon and only caught two.

I stopped out there around 6:15 tonight and there were the most people I have ever seen. I only stayed about 15 minutes. I really didn't see anyone catching much. Wish I could have stayed longer but it was the first time I took my 4 year old nephew fishing. He was more preoccupied with the rock pile in the parking lot and all the people. I decided to take him further north with less distractions. I never realized how hard it is to fish with little guys. I didn't even get to fish myself at all. We ended up catching about 8 small gills. As we were leaving he kept asking me if I would take him out fishing on his birthday.... He must have liked it.

Man, do I know what you mean! The only pole I use for myself when the kids are fishing is one with a big bait and a circle hook with the bail open, and then I just check it once in a while. There's absolutely no way for me to do any real fishing of my own. But when my ex drops the kids off, and the first thing out of their mouth is "Dad, can we go fishing?"... makes it SOOO worth it! Good for you for taking him!

Won't be able to hit the trout til next week though

TNM515,
Did you catch anything? Sorry for moving in on your spot. I normally would stay pretty far away from anyone. There just were so many people out there in one area. Yeah I hope Jackson becomes an avid fisherman like me. Here's a pic.
