Default ...and the winner is:

So I took the names Steve posted above, numbered them in order, wrote the four numbers on four identical pieces of paper, folded the pieces in half, put them in my hat and held the hat above She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed's head, then told her to reach up and pick out just one piece of paper...

<drum roll>

She drew #3.

The winner
of the 2008 GrammarNazi drawing
is

"Christopher, son of Scott Eveland"

Congratulations, Christopher, and thank you to the other families who entered. (I was so afraid no one would enter. )

Scott, I'll be contacting you tonight about shipping information. Also, I'd very much enjoy it if you could arrange to have a photograph of Christopher's English teacher presenting the prize. Any chance you could make that happen?

Way to go Evelands!! Keep up the good work Christopher and enjoy the initial frustrations of the fairy wand.

Thanks again to those who donated to this drawing and made it happen. It's great to see some positive encouragement and reward for those who are serious about their school work. I'm amazed almost every day at the lack of proficiency some people show in their writing skills, especially in the business world. You loose a lot of respect when you aren't able (or are maybe too lazy) to send a properly written email.

Will this be a annual, or every semester event??? Thanks again.

Congratulations to the young Mr. Eveland. Get your practice in now so that you'll be ready to bust some bluegills on their beds when spring rolls around.

We received the package yesterday and Chris tore into it last night, putting all the flies away in the nice box then into the bag. We assembled the rod/reel and I have to admit I didn't even know which way the reel was supposed to go. It reels both directions? What?

Holy cow I'm clueless about fly fishing... I guess we'll both be learning!

Most fly reels these days are "reversible."

Scott, is Chris right-handed or left-handed? If he's right-handed, he'll be casting holding the rod in his right hand, so mount the reel beneath the rod so that the crank is on the left side. Fill the spool accordingly with backing/flyline/leader. If he's left-handed, you'll have to ask Catfishsteve.

Thanks! He's right-handed.

Which way do you crank the backing/flyline/leader to load it? Clockwise or counter-clockwise?

Scott, if you are looking at the side of the reel with the handle on it, you will reel counter clock-wise.

Default Our Winner & His Teacher

Christopher Eveland, winner of the fly fishing outfit in the GrammarNazi drawing, is pictured with his sixth grade English teacher at Ogallala Middle School, Mrs. Teaford. According to Chris's dad, Scott, Mrs. Teaford "got a kick out of the whole premise and appreciates your disdain for the lack of literacy displayed on the average web site. "

Congratulations, again, Chris. And Thank You, Mrs. Teaford.
