Having had to cancel the trip to Gavin's Point and needing to do some things in Lincoln, we made a day of it.
We started off at Pawnee around 7:30 am hoping to get Nicole in to a big carp for the fight. Get there and start to set up and realize that A) I forgot my second cat rod, and B) one of my medium action rods had just enough line on it to make it appear to have plenty of line, but did'nt. I thought the bite would be on at the Lake View campgrounds when I cast one out and almost lost the rod when a fish hit immediatly. That was not the case, that was it, the only bite other than some white perch and a few small crappie. We decide to move into town and fish Holmes Lake. Parking wasn't too bad. Several gills and green sunfish and one cat was what we got there. Played some phone tag with FishinwithDad too. Got several bites and the caught cat on LiquidSteels strawberry jello, water and hotdog mixture (Thanks for posting that Kenny!) Met up with FishinWithDad at BO and his kids. Being early afternoon, and having the kids running around, i didn't think a flatty would be in our future (not to mention I forgot my second cat rod) but cast out a monster of a white perch that Ryan had caught. No flatties, and nothing spectacular to speak of. Although Ryan's daughter did catch a very nice 7 1/2" green sunfish Afterwards, and some phone tag with a certain Pond boss, we find ourselves traveling down a gravel road just under the speed of light. Who want's to catch their first wiper Aquaman says. Nicole chimes in saying "heck, Alex hasn't caught a wiper". The girls, with Aquaman's help all caught their first wiper, and they don't let me forget that they've all caught a fish that daddy hasn't. We bounce around the rest of the "farm" feeding fish and having a good time. As night begins to fall, the fish are all fed, the Froggin' begins. Bruce dons some waders and I grab my ultra lite and we heads to the ponds, the girls bouncing in the back of the gator. Then the craziness (for me) starts. Here I am, my favorite gill set up in my hand, on the banks of a pond that legend tells holds monster gills, and I'm looking for FROGS! Resisting temptation, I begin looking one way and Bruce the other for Kermit. And then it gets interesting. I'll let Bruce finish this off, because I can't wait to hear his telling of this adventure. Plus he's got the pictures ![]() ![]()

Then the froggin' began. We cut some holes in plastic bags for the girls in case it rained, and we headed out for the ponds.
Holdem skillfully landed three frogs, including the biggest one I'd ever seen at 7 inches!!! I got two, but all the while the lightning got closer and closer!!! I thought for sure it was going to miss us to the north, but man was I wrong! A massive thunderstorm blew up over us and lightning flashed everywhere. We threw Holdem, his family and myself into the vehicle and burned rubber back to camp. Holdem and I were soaked from head to toe when we got back to ground zero. ![]() Then it was time to pose with the prizes. My frog was the first I've ever got during an actual frog chase. It was 6 inches, while Holdem scored the big Kermit of the day with the massive 7 incher. ![]() Holdem with my big frog, and his bigger frog. ![]() The proof... ![]() A little stove time... ![]() Kenz's reaction after her first bite! "HEY, that's pretty good!!!", she says. ![]() "I think I'll eat the whole thing!" ![]() ![]()

![]() As usual Alex was "kind" enough to "let" the girls outfish him!

Ryan, great pics, the wife and I sure were not in our usual form of picture taking. Kevin, I always "let" the girls out fish me! Bruce, that was sure a blast, will have to do that again, minus the rain. Kenzie was the lead taster, once she tried it, and liked it, the other two followed suit and liked it too. I'm definatly going to do that again soon. Kermit legs tasted good.
Alex

In regards to effort expended, enjoyment of the chase, and how good those things taste it really doesn't get much better. Carrying a bag of frogs back to the truck at 11:00 pm sure beats the heck out of dragging a deer back at 11:00. Hope to see some more pictures of some giants.

Nobody ever commented on what Holdem has in his other hand. Perhaps because this is a "family" site?

I figured that was what the frogs got a 'shot' of before getting whacked to 'kill the pain' so to speak. . . .
I like catching those buggers on the flyrod, but getting the fly out of their tongue is a real pain for the release. ![]()
