No. Iowa is one of the 20-some states that primarilly fund their state park system though tax dollars, not entrance permits. They do still charge for camping and some other services.
IA DNR: Frequently Asked Questions Is there an entrance fee? No, Iowa State Parks do not charge entrance fees. Come on in and visit.

Thanks Scott.
One of my camping/fishing buddies talked us into giving Okoboji a try this fall. The rest of us wanted to head up to Merrit. I think I will be disappointed by Okoboji's commercialization and lack of remoteness. We gave Calamus a try last fall but got skunked pretty bad by the abundance of bait fish competing with our lures. ![]() Jim |

If you come up to Boji in October, there wont be anyone around and boat traffic will be very minimal. Fishing should be excellent as it always is up there that time of year. Lots of new condos in Boji have been built so I know what you mean about commercialization, it's all about the almighty dollar up there these days. Don't blame ya for wanting to hit up Merrit, beautiful country up that way and very remote. I gotta get up there soon to those sandhills. Good luck on your trip. |

Huskeron,
I think you will be very impressed with the fishing at Okoboji. After Labor Day, it is kind of like a ghost town up there! Development does have some advantages, such as good restaurants and the Berkley factory outlet store!
