After receiving criticism about my respect for harvested animals and my purple get-up, I had to focus on getting a quality picture last night of a keeper
![]() ![]() Notice, no pickup, no tongue, no blood, and a natural(ish) setting. Now for the good stuff... ![]() Pretty good haul, but the inability to count cost us another limit. Oh well, at least we got to bed a bit earlier. |

Yep. Just cook them exactly like you would fried chicken. The only differences are they kind of try to 'jump' out of the hot oil and they taste a heck of a lot better than chicken.

Cleaning them is really easy...just cut the skin around the waist, grab the skin with a pair of pliers and pull. The skin comes off like a pair of pants. With my knife, I think cut the "ankle" joint to take off the feet and I cut through the backbone at the waist. It doesn't take long at all.

Nope, holdemplyer -- you're not missing a thing. I've eaten front legs a time or two off some monsters, but as far as I'm concerned it's not worth it. We did some pretty intensive dissection last night to look for more meat but came up empty handed. It looks like the legs are the 'go to guy'.
After seeing the recent pics posted on another thread, I really wanted a 7+ incher. We got to the secret spot and within five minutes we had this dude in the bag. ![]() A little blurry, but you get the point. A solid 7 1/2-incher! Unfortunately, the rest of the night didn't go as smoothly. Our honey hole was pretty well unwadeable and left us combing the banks for frogs that were out in the deeper water sitting on vegetation mats. After nearly filling the waders a few times, we decided to get out of the water and head back to honey hole #2. We finally got on higher ground and saw the ol' red and blues flashing about 200 yards up ahead. We got a bit closer and a deputy was shining his flashlight in my pickup! We got up a bit further and the deputy jumped in his car, performed a three-point turn, and got his lights, his spotlight, and his flashlight on us. At this point, we were a bit uncomfortable because we didn't want to shine any light back on the officer but still needed to see where we were going. We finally got up to the pickup and fortunately, the officer was a friendly dude. He was pretty fascinated that we were out chasing frogs and more fascinated by the size of them. It took some convincing that we were indeed on public ground, but after calling in our licenses and my truck plates he let us on our way. The 15-minute delay only allowed our spotlights to charge a bit more and we were soon trying to catch some more frogs. The night ended without spectacular results but we still managed to bag a few frogs. Not a limit, but plenty. ![]() One more note about the big dude. I got home and tried to explain how big it was to my wife, but she failed to recognize the significance of it. I figured a visual was needed and showed her the legs of the biggun' next to the legs of a standard 4 1/2-incher. ![]() Needless to say, that one's gonna eat well. |

I guess they're veins, though I really don't know for sure. Every time I've ever had them, I never noticed them. However, they do seem seem pretty prevalent in the pictures. Did you notice that they tasted different or had a different texture?
