Went to the Fort Myers area of southern Florida again this last weekend. Was trying for an 8-10 foot shark again and failed. Ended up breaking off 8 times though, so i think i had it on once or twice. Here are a couple of pics of some smaller ones though.

Ya, it was a good time, a few highlights:
Hooked a Tarpon on a full moon night and it looked like a giant piece of silver flying through the air. It was exciting. It didn't stay hooked up all that long on the sharkin gear though. Caught a small snook while a dolphin (the mammal) was playing next to the boat. Didn't think anything of it and released the small snook. About 10-15 seconds later the dolphin pops out of the water with that snook in its mouth. it was waiting for us to catch a fish and let it go so it could have an easy meal. Was kind of cool. Even if that snook did kind of get the short end of the deal. Ran into a pod of lady fish, which are kind of like really small tarpon. They jump like crazy and a person is lucky to land one of 4 i would guess. Three guys were hooking them almost every cast for just over an hour. We gave up after we felt we had enough of them for shark bait. Sure was fun seeing if you could get one all the way to the boat though. Humbling, definitely humbling. |
