Question Milford Questions

My cousin and I are planning a quick overnight trip down to Milford this friday night, plan is to get there around 7 or 8 in the evening and pull an all-nighter and fish the morning too. I am just wondering what area we should try to put in at? We will be using a 16ft lund w/ 60hp motor, so that will probably be a consideration if it is windy on where we should go or not go. Do you have to have a kansas park sticker if you put in at any of the other boat ramps besides Milford State Park? Where would be a good area to try with the lights out...right now I'm thinking someplace around the dam and are those boat ramps pretty nice? Thanks for any info!

Thunderbird Marina is a good place if you're fishing the South end/dam area.
As for fishing areas, depends on what you're chasing...

We will take anything we can catch, not picky. Hopefully, we can net some shad and use those for bait. Would not mind catching some white bass and wipers.

Look for the bouys, north and south island,follow the gulls. If you had more time, I have a lake map. mc

There is some decent smallie fishing along most any of the ledges and rocky shorelines. Start at the North end of the dam and work through the coves to the north and west.
School Creek is a good area, most anywhere on the lake is worth fishing. Tbird is worth looking at too.
You should think about a little more time there, maybe a week or so...

I would love to spend more time there, but we have some family birthday parties that we have to be at on sunday and we need a fishing fix!

Cooper is correct......If you fish n and s islands with shad(put in at Milford State Park and go back in bay by the marina to get some)..I'll GUARANTEE

you'll get some Wipers..also may catch cats, whites and Wallys

If you have trouble finding shad, look in the backs of big coves and creeks. Use mostly bigger baits when possible to keep the small sand bass and cats off them and hold out for bigger wipers. If my CatScratchewan goose hunt falls thru early Oct, im going to milford for 10 days instead. Please give us a report

Where are you guys talking about when you say north and south islands? Are those physical islands, or underwater humps? I don't see anything labeled as that on the Core of Engineer's Map.

Checked out milford yesterday,saw a huge boil and some smaller ones in north corner of dam. Was late in the day. Wish i would of had a rod with me but i don't think i could of reached it from the bank, would of gave it a helluva try though.

They are humps..buoy is missing/gone on the south 1 but is there on north one..most likely you'll see other boats fishing them..especially the south one

I usually put in at Thunderbird Marina early in the morning and work the south rock walls until I get to the dam. After working the dam north I work the north east cliff walls and drop offs. The whole time throwing cranks and plastics for smallies. Around the time I get done with that I go chasing whitebass and wipers. Follow the gulls and watch for swooping gulls not just floating ones. If there swooping that means fish are pushing the shad up and they are underneath them. If the gulls aren't going crazy start trolling. Also look for groups of boats together.... usually they are on the fish. Eventually something will pay off, usually a few smallies, couple walleye, some golden eyes, alot of white bass and hopefully a few 5lb wipers. Look for windblown points also. I'll be up there in two weeks..... let me know a fishing report when you get back! PM me or start a tread. Good Luck.

I didn't see any humps or bouy's but i did see fish boiling

they are pretty hard to miss boys..

out of the state park ramp take a left (or go south)and you will find north island marked with a buoy!... South island is not marked with a buoy this year, but if you head direct south by south west you will find south island.. they are both underwater humps with north island topping out at 12 ft and south island topping out at 17 ft.. fish south island its got bigger wipers.. gotta get shad in the mornings tho, otherwise its not worth it. South island is a large piece of structure, so look for some boats and work the edges of the island.. it'll drop to 40-60 ft on the edge.. great structure. we pulled some dandy's off it last year.
