Default First Ice

So what is your prediction on the first date that there will be enough ice and it will be thick enough to fish?

If Algore hadn't invented Global Warming, I would have suggested November 15th. But NOW, I'm predicting January 19th.

My ice auger is on a farmhouse somewhere between Merna and Anselmo. Hope it got some use the last couple/three years! The only ice "walkable" around here during that time frame was the cubes I dropped from the freezer.

I'm praying every night that if I make it home for Christmas this year that I'll get to go ice fishing.

The ice came early last year. I don't remeber when I was fishing, but I want to say it was early December. I'd say we'll be checking the tip-ups right around Christmas...

El Nino will allow only for fleeting opportunities on the ice this year! Certainly not as good as last winter.

I feel bad for all of you guys who got hooked on ice fishing last year and bought a bunch of gear. You'll have to go North if you want to use it before Christmas! Of course, I'm partial like jimbosan, I like open water! Float-tubing on ice is a real hassle.

I don't know....my fishing partner(and probably the only one who could talk me into it) moved three hours south.

Oh horse-poopy. I've only been ice-fishing for the last 8 years or so, but I can only remember one winter where there was very little ice. We usually get at least two good months of safe, solid ice. Sure, it's not Fairbanks, but it ain't exactly Miami down here either.
