If i had my way I'd be on ice all year round. Just leave the tents and auger in the back of my truck and the clam chair and marcum in the passenger seat. No more hookin up the boat, and no more putting gas in it either.

I like open water tried icefishing a couple times it isnt bad if you have a case of budheavy and a lot of time to kill. Much rather be fishing open water. Hopefully there isnt any ice this year.

I've already told Catfishsteve I'm heading up when I hear there's ice. I've got extra rods for you to use.

No ice, boat does not float well on ice and I'm just not a believer in walking on a thin layer of ice with freezing temp underneath. I could think of a hundred other ways good ways to die then freezing to death.

want ice mainly because I bowhunt and I want it so very cold. Not much of an ice fisherman, like I said it'll kill the time until its time to sit in the stand.

One year back in the mid-80's I was fishing at Pawnee thanksgiving weekend on 18 inches of ice. It varies every year. Some years it doesn't get that thick all winter. Snow cover at the wrong time can keep ice from forming. Last year was a real good year. I'd say x-mas is a good guess.

There was 16-17" of ice on the W last year. We'll be good.

Earliest we've ice fished around here was Nov. 14, latest Dec. 5.

Glad to see some non ice fishers. More room for the rest of us.

There is just something about triggering a strike/landing a fish on ice that is unduplicatable (is that a word?) in open water. Can't explain it, ya just have to do it.

dc

I think that we could say that the "window of opportunity" is a little smaller when we are ice fishing. Some of the largest fish that I have caught have come through that little 8" hole.

Can't wait; but December is still a lot of fish away.

We had a strong La Nina pattern this last season. There is approximately 10% likelihood for La Nina conditions to re-emerge during the remainder of the year and a 75% probability for ENSO-neutral conditions.

Looks likely to have normal weather patterns this winter.
I predict safe ice in January.

Remember the old lore...
When leaves drop early, Fall and Winter will be mild
When leaves drop late, Winter will be severe.
